Intel Extreme Masters Season XIII – World Championship
The Intel Extreme Masters Season XIII – World Championship or IEM Katowice 2019 was the world championship for the thirteenth season of the Intel Extreme Masters. It was held at the Spodek in Katowice, Silesian Voivodeship, Poland from February 13–March 3, 2019. The event featured tournaments for '' Counter-Strike: Global Offensive'', ''Dota 2'', ''StarCraft II'', and '' Fortnite: Battle Royale''. In addition, the ''Counter-Strike'' tournament was the game's fourteenth Major Championship. ''Counter-Strike: Global Offensive'' Valve awarded ESL a Counter-Strike: Global Offensive Major Championship for the first time in nearly two and a half years. This tournament featured twenty-four teams from around the world, fourteen of which were directly invited from their top fourteen placements from the last Major and another ten teams qualifying from their respective regional qualifiers. ''Counter-Strike: Global Offensive'' (''CS:GO'') is a 2012 multiplayer tactical first-person shooter developed by Valve and Hidden Path Entertainment. It is the fourth game in the ''Counter-Strike'' series. Developed for over two years, ''Global Offensive'' was released for OS X, PlayStation 3, Windows, and Xbox 360 in August 2012, and for Linux in 2014. Valve still regularly updates the game, both with smaller balancing patches and larger content additions. The game pits two teams, Terrorists and Counter-Terrorists, against each other in different objective-based game modes. The most common game modes involve the Terrorists planting a bomb while Counter-Terrorists attempt to stop them, or Counter-Terrorists attempting to rescue hostages that the Terrorists have captured. ''StarCraft II'' is a military science fiction video game created by Blizzard Entertainment as a sequel to the successful ''StarCraft'' video game released in 1998. Dignitas, formerly known as Team Dignitas, is a professional esports organization based in Newark, New Jersey, founded by Michael "ODEE" O'Dell on 9 September 2003 as a merger of two top ''Battlefield 1942'' clans.
