Insurgentes Sur is a station on Mexico City Metro Line 12, Line 12 of the Mexico City Metro. The station is located between Metro Mixcoac, Mixcoac and Metro Hospital 20 de Noviembre, Hospital 20 de Noviembre. It was opened on 30 October 2012 as part of the first stretch of Line 12 between Mixcoac and Metro Tláhuac, Tláhuac. It is built underground. General information The station is located south of the city center, at the intersection between Avenida de los Insurgentes, Eje 7 Sur Extremadura, and Eje 7 Félix Cuevas, in the Benito Juárez, Mexico City, Benito Juárez borough. The station, thus, receives its name from being at the southern section of the Avenida de los Insurgentes. Avenida De Los Insurgentes
Avenida de los Insurgentes ( en, Avenue of the Insurgents), sometimes known simply as Insurgentes, is the longest avenue in Mexico City, with a length of on a north-south axis across the city. Insurgentes has its origins in what was during the early 20th century known as the Via del Centenario which ran from city centre to the southern suburbs. Many decades later, after it was paved and widened, its name was changed to Avenida de los Insurgentes, apparently happening during the administration of President Miguel Alemán, when the area attracted wealthy urbanites for sophisticated, modern housing. The avenue was named after the Insurgent Army (''Ejército de los Insurgentes'') that fought for Mexican independence from Spain during the Mexican War of Independence from 1810 to 1821. Parque Hundido
Parque Hundido (official name is Parque Luis G. Urbina) is an urban park located in Benito Juárez, Mexico City. Background Its site was occupied by the brick-making company Ladrillera Nochebuena from the mid 19th century until the beginning of Porfiriato, when the brick company moved away and the site became an empty depression. By 1910, several species of trees were planted, creating the Nochebuena forest (''Bosque de la Nochebuena''). The area has been populated since late 18th century. However, the area was a collection of small towns and was, at that time, far away from Mexico City itself. In the late 1930s, having paved and widened Avenida de los Insurgentes, the city government decided to use the beautiful setting of the forest to create a new park. Its layout comprised gardens, walkways, a dual jai-alai/ fronton court, and fountains for visitors to enjoy. The system of Ejes viales (singular: ''eje vial'', lit. "road axis") in Mexico City is a large network of wide arterial roads with coordinated traffic signals. They are mainly directed in one-way with a single lane going in the opposite direction used exclusively by public transportation.
