Institut Jules Bordet
Institut Jules Bordet is a specialized general hospital (with in part university beds) and research institute of the Université libre de Bruxelles which specializes in oncology. It is located in Brussels, Belgium. The institute is named after Jules Bordet (1870 – 1961), a Belgian immunologist and microbiologist who won the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1919 for his discoveries relating to immunity. The institute is the only accredited OECI-designated comprehensive cancer centre in Belgium. The hospital is located nearby the academic Erasmus Hospital since end 2021. "Dominique" is a 1963 French language popular song, written and performed by the Belgian female singer Jeannine Deckers, better known as Sœur Sourire ("Sister Smile" in French) or The Singing Nun. The song is about Saint Dominic, a Spanish-born priest and founder of the Dominican Order, of which she was a member (as Sister Luc-Gabrielle). Martine Piccart
Martine J. Piccart-Gebhart (born 1953) is a Belgian medical oncologist. She is a professor of oncology at the Université Libre de Bruxelles and scientific director at the Jules Bordet Institute in Brussels, Belgium. She is also a member of the Belgian Royal Academy of Medicine. Prof. Piccart is a past president of the European CanCer Organisation. She has also held presidencies of the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer and the European Society of Medical Oncology, has served on both the American Society of Clinical Oncology and American Association for Cancer Research boards. Marc Guy Albert Marie Lacroix (; born 28 April 1963 in Verviers, Wallonia, Belgium) is a biochemist (educated at University of Liège) and a researcher who specializes in breast cancer biology, metastasis and therapy. He works at Institut Jules Bordet (Brussels, Belgium). He lives in Baelen Earlier work Breast cancer cells (BCC) frequently metastasize to the skeleton, where they lead to tumor-induced osteolysis and subsequent morbidity. Albert Claude
Albert Claude (; 24 August 1899 – 22 May 1983) was a Belgian- American cell biologist and medical doctor who shared the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1974 with Christian de Duve and George Emil Palade. His elementary education started in a comprehensive primary school at Longlier, his birthplace. He served in the British Intelligence Service during the First World War, and got imprisoned in concentration camps twice. In recognition of his service, he was granted enrolment at the University of Liège in Belgium to study medicine without any formal education required for the course. He earned his Doctor of Medicine degree in 1928. Devoted to medical research, he initially joined German institutes in Berlin. OECI
The Organisation of European Cancer Institutes (OECI) is an international non-profit organization with European Economic Interest Grouping status. It was created in 1979 to promote greater cooperation among European cancer centers and institutes. Its head office is located in Brussels at the Belgian University Foundation. Background The OECI is the main European network of accredited cancer centers on the continent. The OECI relies on a network of almost 100 institutions all over Europe, to ensure cancer patients are provided with the specialized healthcare respective to the type of cancer that they have.
