Institut Jacques Monod
The Institut Jacques Monod, funded jointly by the CNRS and the University Paris Diderot, is one of the main centres for basic research in biology in Paris, France. It is headed by Valerie Doye. There are 3 broad research topics (Genome and chromosome dynamics, Cellular dynamics and signalling, Development and evolution) and 2 main transverse axes ( Quantitative biology and modelling, Molecular and cellular pathologies). Research at the interface of biology with physics, mathematics, chemistry and medicine is strongly encouraged. Some 300 people work at the Institute (tenured investigators, Ph.D. students, post-docs, technicians, engineers, French and foreign visitors, and administrative staff). Protein Biosynthesis
Protein biosynthesis (or protein synthesis) is a core biological process, occurring inside cells, balancing the loss of cellular proteins (via degradation or export) through the production of new proteins. Proteins perform a number of critical functions as enzymes, structural proteins or hormones. Protein synthesis is a very similar process for both prokaryotes and eukaryotes but there are some distinct differences. Protein synthesis can be divided broadly into two phases - transcription and translation. During transcription, a section of DNA encoding a protein, known as a gene, is converted into a template molecule called messenger RNA (mRNA). This conversion is carried out by enzymes, known as RNA polymerases, in the nucleus of the cell. Jussieu Campus
The Jussieu Campus (''Campus Universitaire de Jussieu'') is a higher education campus located in the 5th arrondissement of Paris, France. It is the main campus of the Faculty of Science of Sorbonne University. Paris-VII University (now merged into University of Paris), was also originally located on the Jussieu campus, but moved to a new, independent campus, , in the new Paris Rive Gauche neighbourhood in 2006-2012. History The campus was opened in 1951 and eventually it would host a great part of the old faculty of sciences of the Sorbonne. The campus is built on the site of the former "Halle aux Vins," a wine market created by Napoleon Bonaparte. Giuseppe Baldacci (3 April 1856 – ?) was an Italian architect. He was born in Florence and studied at the Florentine Istituto Tecnico and the Accademia di Belle Arti Firenze, Accademia di Belle Arti. He then joined the architects Castellazzi and Cesare Spighi in designing the reliefs for the church of Santa Trinita, Florence, Santa Trinita. He built a small villino in via Masaccio, Florence for Odoardo Salvestri, and restored the stables for Doctor Folli in Borgo San Jacopo.
