Inside Straight (film)
''Inside Straight'' is a 1951 American Western film directed by Gerald Mayer and starring David Brian, Arlene Dahl, Barry Sullivan, Mercedes McCambridge and Paula Raymond. Plot In San Francisco in 1870, Ada Stritch owns a bank, but there is a run on it. She needs $3 million to keep it open. In desperation, she turns to Rip MacCool, a wealthy man whom she despises. Also in need of Rip's help are newspaperman Johnny Sanderson and an old acquaintance, Flutey. They and Ada each have an issue with Rip from their past. Rip offers to deal a hand of poker, and if Ada wins, he will give her the $3 million. If not, he gets the bank. Everyone recalls how they first met. Fifteen years before, Ada, a widow, had a small hotel that she wanted to sell. Rip and his pal Shocker were guests there. Guy Trosper
Guy Walter Trosper (March 27, 1911 – December 19, 1963) was an American screenwriter. He was best known for his work in the films ''The Stratton Story'' (1949), ''Devil's Doorway'' (1950), ''The Pride of St. Louis'' (1952), '' Jailhouse Rock'' (1957), ''One-Eyed Jacks'' (1961), ''Birdman of Alcatraz'' (1962), and '' The Spy Who Came In from the Cold'' (1965). Trosper began his film career as a reader for Samuel Goldwyn and became a screenwriter in 1941. He was nominated for an Academy Award in 1953 and posthumously won an Edgar Award in 1966. Early life Trosper was born in Lander, Wyoming on March 27, 1911, the son of Ruth Calista (née Edgcomb) and Charles Alfred Trosper. His younger sister was Kathryn Naomi Popper (née Trosper). The winner of the Best Motion Picture category was Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer's ''An American in Paris''. The other four nominated pictures were ''Decision Before Dawn'', '' A Place in the Sun'', ''Quo Vadis'', and ''A Streetcar Named Desire''. Vivien Leigh won the Oscar for Best Actress for her role as Blanche DuBois in ''A Streetcar Named Desire''. Lou Nova
Lou Nova (March 16, 1913 – September 29, 1991) also called ''Cosmic punch'' was an American boxer and actor. Born in Los Angeles, California, the Nova was the U.S. and World Amateur Boxing Champion in 1935. After turning pro, he remained undefeated in his first 22 matches, and won 40 fights in total. He was the first top rated boxer to practice yoga, and reportedly did headstands in the dressing room before his title bout with Joe Louis. Boxing career In 1938, Nova gained an upset win over Britain's Tommy Farr in a 15-round decision. Nova had Farr near a knockout in the 14th round when Referee Eddie Josephs started counting as he lay in the ropes. However, Farr resumed the fight after the count reached two. Both men were in a state of exhaustion in the last round. This fight put Nova on the American boxing map as a potential heavyweight title contender.
