Inside Science
''Inside Science'' is a science programme broadcast on BBC Radio Four. It is normally broadcast from 4:30 to 5 p.m. on Thursday, and is repeated 9 to 9:30 p.m. on Thursday. It is normally presented by Adam Rutherford, but may occasionally be presented by a different presenter, such as Gareth Mitchell or Marnie Chesterton. Any branch of science, physics, chemistry or biology, may be discussed on the programme. The programme normally features the presenter interviewing several people who are specialists in different areas of science. On occasions, topics connected with the history of science may feature in the programme, as on 16 November 2017, when the work of Sir Francis Galton was discussed. The programme normally deals with several areas of science, but may occasionally be dedicated to one field of science, as on 5 April 2018, when a whole programme was dedicated to the work of Stephen Hawking. BBC Radio 4 is a British national radio station owned and operated by the BBC that replaced the BBC Home Service in 1967. It broadcasts a wide variety of spoken-word programmes, including news, drama, comedy, science and history from the BBC's headquarters at Broadcasting House, London. Adam Rutherford
Adam David Rutherford (born 1975) is a British geneticist and science populariser. He was an audio-visual content editor for the journal ''Nature'' for a decade, and is a frequent contributor to the newspaper ''The Guardian''. He hosts the BBC Radio 4 programmes ''Inside Science'' and (with Hannah Fry) ''The Curious Cases of Rutherford and Fry''; has produced several science documentaries; and has published books related to genetics and the origin of life. He is an honorary senior research associate in the division of biosciences at University College London. Rutherford became President of Humanists UK in June 2022 succeeding former President, Alice Roberts. Gareth Mitchell
Gareth Mitchell is a Welsh technology journalist, lecturer and former broadcast engineer. Early life Mitchell was born Gareth James Mitchell in Eastleigh, England to a Welsh father, Colin Mitchell. He spent his childhood in Montgomeryshire, Powys, Wales. When Gareth was seven, his father lit up a bulb with a closed circuit, and that sparked his interest in science. He has a brother named Julian. He was a member of the computer society at school (Welshpool High School) and participated in bellringing and organ (music), organ playing at his local church. Sir Francis Galton
Sir Francis Galton, FRS FRAI (; 16 February 1822 – 17 January 1911), was an English Victorian era polymath: a statistician, sociologist, psychologist, anthropologist, tropical explorer, geographer, inventor, meteorologist, proto-geneticist, psychometrician and a proponent of social Darwinism, eugenics, and scientific racism. He was knighted in 1909. Galton produced over 340 papers and books. He also created the statistical concept of correlation and widely promoted regression toward the mean. He was the first to apply statistical methods to the study of human differences and inheritance of intelligence, and introduced the use of questionnaires and surveys for collecting data on human communities, which he needed for genealogical and biographical works and for his anthropometric studies. Human Genome Project
The Human Genome Project (HGP) was an international scientific research project with the goal of determining the base pairs that make up human DNA, and of identifying, mapping and sequencing all of the genes of the human genome from both a physical and a functional standpoint. It started in 1990 and was completed in 2003. It remains the world's largest collaborative biological project. Planning started after the idea was picked up in 1984 by the US government, the project formally launched in 1990, and was declared essentially complete on April 14, 2003, but included only about 85% of the genome. Level "complete genome" was achieved in May 2021, with a remaining only 0.3% bases covered by potential issues. The final gapless assembly was finished in January 2022. Mars

''Science in Action'' is a long-running weekly radio programme produced by the BBC World Service and currently hosted by British journalists Roland Pease and Marnie Chesterton, and scientist and broadcaster Professor Adam Hart. It is broadcast on Thursdays at 18.32 GMT and repeated twice the following day, at 01.32 and 08.32. A programme with the title ''Science in Action'' is believed to have begun life in 1964, when it replaced an earlier series, dating from the 1950s, called ''Science and Industry''. From September 1965 a short-lived series called ''Science in Action'' ran on the Home Service; it was broadcast at 19.30 on Thursdays, later 21.30. In December 1965 it was moved to 14.30 on Fridays. Material World (radio Programme)
''Material World'' was a weekly science magazine programme on BBC Radio 4 broadcast on a Thursday afternoon. The programme's regular presenter was Quentin Cooper, with contributions from scientists researching areas under discussion in each programme. History The programme began as ''The Material World'' in April 1998. It was presented by Trevor Phillips, a chemistry graduate of Imperial College. In September 2000 Phillips was told that he could no longer work at the BBC due to his close links with the Labour Party, which broke BBC rules of impartiality.
