Insiang
''Insiang'' () is a 1976 Philippine Drama (film and television), drama film directed by Lino Brocka. Its screenplay, written by Mario O'Hara and Lamberto Antonio, Lamberto E. Antonio, is based on O'Hara's teleplay of the same name. Set in the slums of Tondo, Manila, the film stars Hilda Koronel as the eponymous character: the young daughter of a resentful mother (Mona Lisa (actress), Mona Lisa), whose much-younger lover (Ruel Vernal) rapes her. After her assault and the betrayal of her own lover (Rez Cortez), Insiang seeks revenge. A representation of urban poverty, the film explores themes of betrayal, revenge and despair. It is the first Philippine film to be shown at the Cannes Film Festival, and to use Tondo as a shooting location. Lino Brocka
Catalino Ortiz Brocka (April 3, 1939 – May 22, 1991) was a Filipino film director. He is widely regarded as one of the most influential and significant filmmakers in the history of Philippine cinema. He co-founded the organization Concerned Artists of the Philippines (CAP), dedicated to helping artists address issues confronting the country, and the Free the Artist Movement. He was a member of the Coalition for the Restoration of Democracy. He directed landmark films such as ''Tinimbang Ka Ngunit Kulang'' (1974), '' Maynila sa mga Kuko ng Liwanag'' (1975), ''Insiang'' (1976), '' Bayan Ko: Kapit sa Patalim'' (1984), and '' Orapronobis'' (1989). Hilda Koronel
Hilda Koronel (born Susan Reid; January 17, 1957) is a MMFF, FAMAS, Luna and Urian award-winning Filipino actress. Born to a Filipino mother and an American father who was a serviceman in Clark Air Base, she has starred in around 45 films, many of which are critically acclaimed, since 1970. She started her showbiz career in the early 70s as a Lea Productions' contract star and was paired with Ed Finlan, Walter Navarro, Tirso Cruz, III and Jay Ilagan which eventually became her husband. Because of her natural gift of acting, Lino Brocka took notice of her and directed her in a weekly drama show, entitled, "Hilda". Gloria Lerma Yatco (June 22, 1922 – August 25, 2019), better known by her screen name Mona Lisa, was a Filipina film actress. Mario Herrero O'Hara (April 20, 1946 – June 26, 2012) was a Philippines, Filipino film director, film producer and screenwriter known for his sense of Realism (arts), realism often with dark but realistic social messages. Lamberto E. Antonio is a Filipino writer. Opposite Mario O'Hara, he co-wrote the screenplay for Lino Brocka's film ''Insiang'' (1976), the first Philippine film to be shown at the Cannes Film Festival in 1978. 2015 Cannes Film Festival
The 68th Cannes Film Festival was held from 13 to 24 May 2015. Joel and Ethan Coen were the Presidents of the Jury for the main competition. It was the first time that two people chaired the jury. Since the Coen brothers each received a separate vote, they were joined by seven other jurors to form the customary nine-juror panel. French actor Lambert Wilson was the host for the opening and closing ceremonies. The Palme d'Or was awarded to the French film ''Dheepan'' directed by Jacques Audiard. On winning the award Audiard said "To receive a prize from the Coen brothers is something pretty exceptional. I'm very touched". Victim Blaming
Victim blaming occurs when the victim of a crime or any wrongful act is held entirely or partially at fault for the harm that befell them. There is historical and current prejudice against the victims of domestic violence and sex crimes, such as the greater tendency to blame victims of rape than victims of robbery if victims and perpetrators knew each other prior to the commission of the crime.
