Ingrida Šimonytė
Ingrida Šimonytė (; born 15 November 1974) is a Lithuanian politician and economist who is the Prime Minister of Lithuania since 11 December 2020. She has been a Member of the Seimas of Antakalnis constituency since 2016 and was Minister of Finance in the second Kubilius cabinet from 2009 until 2012. Šimonytė was a candidate in the 2019 presidential election, but lost in the second round runoff to Gitanas Nausėda. She is a member of Homeland Union. She is considered one of strongest politicians in modern Lithuania. Born in Vilnius, Šimonytė graduated from Vilnius University with a degree in business in 1996, later receiving a master's degree in 1998. She began her career as an economist and public servant, working as chief of the tax division within the Ministry of Finance until 2004. The Second Kubilius Cabinet was the 15th cabinet of Lithuania since 1990. It consisted of the Prime Minister and 13 government ministers (14 after the Ministry of Energy was re-established in 2009). The Freedom Party ( lt, Laisvės partija) is a political party in Lithuania, founded on 1 June 2019 and led by former Liberal Movement member Aušrinė Armonaitė. Liberals' Movement ( lt, Liberalų sąjūdis), abbreviated to LS, is a conservative-liberal political party in Lithuania. 2016 Lithuanian Parliamentary Election
Parliamentary elections were held in Lithuania on 9 and 23 October 2016 to elect the 141 members of the Seimas. 71 were elected in single-member constituencies using the two-round system, and the remaining 70 in a single nationwide constituency using proportional representation. The first round was held on 9 October and the second round on 23 October. The elections were won by the Lithuanian Farmers and Greens Union with 22.45% of the popular vote and 54 seats, up from just 4.05% and a single seat in the previous elections in 2012. The success of the party was attributed to voter dissatisfaction with established parties in light of low wages and persistent emigration.
