Ingrid Losert (born 30 December 1958) is a retired German fencer. She won four medals in the team foil at world championships. sport-komplett.de Losert followed her father and brother Roland, both Olympic fencers, and started training in the age of seven. Fencing is a group of three related combat sports. The three disciplines in modern fencing are the foil, the épée, and the sabre (also ''saber''); winning points are made through the weapon's contact with an opponent. The World Fencing Championships is an annual competition in fencing organized by the Fédération Internationale d'Escrime (FIE; ''International Fencing Federation'' in English). Foil (fencing)
A foil is one of the three weapons used in the sport of fencing, all of which are metal. It is flexible, rectangular in cross section, and weighs under a pound. As with the épée, points are only scored by contact with the tip, which, in electrically scored tournaments, is capped with a spring-loaded button to signal a touch. A foil fencer's uniform features the lamé (a vest, electrically wired to record valid hits). He competed in the individual and team foil and sabre events at the 1936 Summer Olympics with the best achievement of fourth place in the team foil. Roland Losert (born 6 January 1945) is a retired Austrian fencer who won the world title in épée in 1963. He also won junior world titles in épée (1963) and foil (1964 and 1965). Losert competed at the 1964, 1968 and 1972 Summer Olympics in the individual foil and individual and team épée events (nine in total). His best achievement was fourth place in the foil in 1964.
