Ingrid Isotamm
Ingrid Isotamm (born 3 May 1979) is an Estonian stage, film, radio and television actress. Early life and education Ingrid Isotamm was born in the small borough of Palamuse in Jõgeva County in 1979. Her father was Gunnar Isotamm (1948–2003) and her mother is Lea Isotamm (''née'' Kaukver). Both of her parents were authors. She graduated secondary school from the Oskar Luts Palamuse Gymnasium in 1997. Afterwards she studied acting under the supervision of actor and teacher Andres Noormets at the University of Tartu Viljandi Culture Academy in Viljandi, graduating in 2001. Stage career In 2002, Isotamm became engaged as an actress at the NUKU theatre (the Estonian Puppet and Youth Theatre; formerly the Estonian State Puppet Theatre) in Tallinn. Palamuse
Palamuse is a small borough ( et, alevik) in Jõgeva County, in Jõgeva Parish, Estonia, located about southeast of the town of Jõgeva. It is passed by the Amme River. With a population of 551 (as of 1 January 2011) Palamuse was the biggest settlement and the administrative centre of Palamuse Parish. Palamuse is best known for being depicted in the Oskar Luts' 1912–1913 novel Spring (''Kevade'') as the settlement called "Paunvere". The 1969 film adaptation ''Spring'' was also filmed in Palamuse. His brother, filmmaker Theodor Luts (1896-1980) was born in Palamuse. Palamuse was first mentioned in a letter by Pope Gregory IX on 20 November 1234. The settlement evolved around the Palamuse St. Bartholomew's Church which was built in 1234 by the monks of the Kärkna Abbey. The church was reconstructed in Gothic style in the 15th century. Nikolai Gogol
Nikolai Vasilyevich Gogol; uk, link=no, Мико́ла Васи́льович Го́голь, translit=Mykola Vasyliovych Hohol; (russian: Яновский; uk, Яновський, translit=Yanovskyi) ( – ) was a Russian novelist, short story writer and playwright of Ukrainian origin. Gogol was one of the first to use the technique of the grotesque, in works such as " The Nose", " Viy", "The Overcoat", and "Nevsky Prospekt". These stories, and others such as " Diary of a Madman", have also been noted for their proto-surrealist qualities. According to Viktor Shklovsky, Gogol's strange style of writing resembles the "ostranenie" technique of defamiliarization. His early works, such as ''Evenings on a Farm Near Dikanka'', were influenced by his Ukrainian upbringing, Ukrainian culture and folklore. The Soviet occupation of the Baltic states covers the period from the Soviet Union, Soviet–Baltic States, Baltic mutual assistance pacts in 1939, to their invasion and annexation in 1940, to the mass deportations of 1941. In September and October 1939 the Soviet government compelled the much smaller Baltic states to conclude mutual assistance pacts which gave the Soviets the right to establish military bases there. Following invasion by the Red Army in the summer of 1940, Soviet authorities compelled the Baltic governments to resign. The presidents of Estonia and Latvia were imprisoned and later died in Siberia. Under Soviet supervision, new puppet communist governments and fellow travelers arranged rigged elections with falsified results. Shortly thereafter, the newly elected "people's assemblies" passed resolutions requesting admission into the Soviet Union. Soviet Deportations From Estonia
Soviet deportations from Estonia were a series of mass deportations by the Soviet Union from Estonia in 1941 and 1945–1951. The two largest waves of deportations occurred in June 1941 and March 1949 simultaneously in all three Baltic states (Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania). The deportations targeted primarily women, children and the elderly calling them 'anti-Soviet elements'. In addition there were deportations based on ethnicity (Germans in 1945 and Ingrian Finns in 1947–1950) and religion (Jehovah's Witnesses in 1951). Estonians residing in the Leningrad Oblast had already been subjected to deportation since 1935. People were deported to remote areas of the Soviet Union, predominantly to Siberia and northern Kazakhstan, by means of railroad cattle cars. TV3 is a commercial television channel targeted at an Estonian language audience owned by Providence Equity Partners. History It was founded in 1996 after two recently established television stations, EVTV and RTV, were merged. TV3 has two sister channels. TV6 is a television channel targeted at entertainment television channel in Estonia, launched in 2002. TV8 is an entertainment television channel, launched as a digital sister channel to TV3 in 2009. Eesti Televisioon (ETV) ( en, Estonian Television) is an Estonian free-to-air television channel owned and operated by Estonian Public Broadcasting. It made its first broadcast on 19 July 1955. History Eesti Televisioon (''Estonian Television'') was launched on 19 July 1955. Before that, television broadcasts in Estonia could only be received from Moscow. Endla Theatre
Endla ( et, Endla teater) is a professional theatre in city of Pärnu, Estonia. The theatre was opened in 1911. The first performance was "Libahunt" ("Werewolf") by Estonian writer August Kitzberg. The Estonian Declaration of Independence was proclaimed from the theatre's balcony on 23 February 1918, one day before it was proclaimed in Tallinn. Endla was gutted by fire in 1944 and the Soviet authorities opted not to restore the theatre but to demolish it with explosives in 1961, due to it being an important symbol of Estonian independence.
