Inge Sargent
Inge Sargent (born Inge Eberhard; 23 February 1932 – 5 February 2023), also known as Sao Nang Thu Sandi ( my, စဝ်သုစန္ဒီ), was an Austrian and American author and human-rights activist who was the last Mahadevi of Hsipaw, reigning from 1957 until 1959. Early life Eberhard was born on 23 February 1932, in Bad Sankt Leonhard, Austria. When she was six years old, the Nazis annexed her homeland, and her mother was arrested by them on three occasions. Following World War II, Eberhard decided to study in the United States. In 1951, she received one of the first Austrian Fulbright Scholarships and enrolled at Colorado Women's College. Hsipaw State
Hsipaw ( shn, သီႇပေႃႉ), also known as Thibaw ( my, သီပေါနယ်) was a Shan state in what is today Myanmar. Its capital was Hsipaw town. Hsipaw State was perhaps one of the most well known and powerful Shan States. History A predecessor state named Duṭṭhavatī ( my, ဒုဋ္ဌဝတီ) was said to be founded in 58 BC, according to local tradition. During the Sino-Burmese War (1765–69) the Qianlong Emperor of China invaded the area of Hsipaw. The main Chinese army, led by Ming Rui, was to approach Ava through Hsenwi, Lashio and Hsipaw down the Namtu river. The main invasion route was the same route followed by the Manchu forces a century earlier, chasing the Yongli Emperor of the Southern Ming dynasty. The second army, led by Gen. ''Twilight Over Burma'' ( my, မြန်မာ့ဆည်းဆာ) is a 2015 Austrian biographical film based on the eponymous novel, an autobiography written by Inge Sargent, the Austrian-born consort of Sao Kya Seng, the last saopha of Hsipaw. The film was directed by Sabine Derflinger and produced by Dor Film; it premiered in Austria on October 26, 2015. Plot Inge Sargent, an Austrian student and Sao Kya Seng, a young mining student from Burma fall in love.
