Inge Prytz Johnson
Inge Prytz Johnson (born December 19, 1945) is an inactive Senior United States district judge of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Alabama. Early life and education Born in Svendborg, Denmark, Johnson received a Certificate of English Law from City of London College in 1968 and a Juris Certificate from the University of Copenhagen Faculty of Law in 1969. In 1970, Johnson moved to the United States, and attended the University of Alabama School of Law and graduated with a M.C.Law degree. She received a Juris Doctor from the University of Alabama School of Law in 1973. Legal career Following law school graduation, Johnson started her legal career as a private practice attorney licensed in the nation of Denmark from 1970 to 1971. Senior Status
Senior status is a form of semi-retirement for United States federal judges. To qualify, a judge in the Federal judiciary of the United States, federal court system must be at least 65 years old, and the sum of the judge's age and years of service as a federal judge must be at least 80 years. As long as senior judges carry at least a 25 percent caseload or meet other criteria for activity, they remain entitled to maintain a staffed office and chambers, including a secretary and their normal complement of law clerks, and they continue to receive annual cost-of-living increases. Senior judges vacate their seats on the bench, and the President of the United States, president may appoint new full-time judges to fill those seats.
