Ingalls House (De Smet, South Dakota)
Ingalls House is a historic house museum at 210 3rd Street Southwest in De Smet, South Dakota. The 3rd street house was moved into on Christmas Eve 1887. Everyone but Laura lived there; she married Almanzo in 1885 and therefore would have not been living with her parents anymore. Laura Ingalls Wilder. After living in the surveyor's house in town in 1879-80 and then homesteading for several years, Charles Phillip Ingalls constructed this town house in 1887, and it was occupied by the family until 1928. It features many furnishings crafted by Mr. Ingalls. The Laura Ingalls Wilder Memorial Society purchased the house in 1967 and opened it to the public the next year. The bodies of Charles, Caroline, Mary, Carrie, and Grace Ingalls, and the unnamed infant son of Laura and Almanzo Wilder and Grace’s husband, Nathan Dow, are buried nearby in the De Smet Cemetery a little over a mile away. De Smet, South Dakota
De Smet is a city in and the county seat of Kingsbury County, South Dakota, United States. The population was 1,089 at the 2010 census. History Located in the area of South Dakota known as "East River" (east of the Missouri River, which diagonally divides the state), De Smet was platted by European Americans in 1880. It was named for Belgian Father Pierre De Smet, a 19th-century Jesuit missionary who worked with Native Americans in the United States and its territories for most of his life. In the mid 1880s, prairie fires and failures of crops after a three-year period of drought caused many settlers to relocate their farms and homesteads to easier areas. By 1917, De Smet was a cow town, with many trains passing through every day carrying cattle to market. The Charles Ingalls family, originally of Wisconsin, arrived in De Smet in 1879. Almanzo James Wilder (; February 13, 1857 – October 23, 1949) was the husband of Laura Ingalls Wilder and the father of Rose Wilder Lane, both noted authors. Laura Ingalls Wilder House
The Laura Ingalls Wilder House is a historic house museum at 3060 Highway A in Mansfield, Missouri. Also known as Rocky Ridge Farm, it was the home of author Laura Ingalls Wilder from 1896 until her death in 1957. The author of the ''Little House on the Prairie'' series, Wilder began writing the series while living there. The house, together with the nearby Rock Cottage on the same property, represents one of the few surviving places where she resided. Shortly after her death local residents initiated legal steps to acquire the house through the incorporation of a non-profit organization to preserve her legacy. Owned by the Laura Ingalls Wilder Home Association, the house is open to the public for tours. It was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1991.
