The East German Figure Skating Championships were a figure skating competition held annually to determine the national champions of the German Democratic Republic, often referred to as ''East Germany''. Skaters competed in the disciplines of men's singles, ladies' singles, pair skating, and ice dancing. Organized by the DELV (the national figure skating association of the GDR), the event was held annually from 1949 to 1990. During the same period, the German Figure Skating Championships were held in the Federal Republic of Germany, commonly known as ''West Germany''. Following the reunification of Germany, East German skaters competed at the German Championships, and the East German championships were discontinued. List Of Figure Skating Competitions
Many international and national figure skating competitions are organized yearly. The three levels of ISU international competition are senior, junior, and advanced novice. Non-elite skaters may also compete in 'Adult' competitions. 'Professional' competitions were contested mainly by former elite skaters or sometimes a mix of eligible and ineligible skaters if sanctioned by the ISU. Mario Liebers
Mario Liebers (born 1 January 1960) is a German former competitive figure skater who represented East Germany. He is the 1977 Blue Swords champion, the 1978 Prize of Moscow News bronze medalist, and a five-time East German national silver medalist. He finished in the top ten at the 1978 World Championships and at three European Championships. After retiring from competition, Liebers became a dentist based in Berlin. He and his wife Kerstin, a former sprinter, are the parents of German figure skaters Martin Liebers (born in 1985) and Peter Liebers Peter Liebers (born 16 April 1988) is a German former competitive figure skater. Hermann Schulz
Hermann Schulz (born 14 December 1961) is a German former figure skater who represented East Germany. He is the 1981 national champion and competed at the 1980 Winter Olympics. Personal life Schulz was born on 14 December 1961 in Dresden, Saxony, East Germany. He works as an internist at the center for dialysis in Döbeln. Skating career Schulz learned his first triple jumps at Dresdner Eislauf-Club in Dresden. He was coached by Ingrid Lehmann. As a 13-year-old, he placed 8th at the 1975 European Championships in Copenhagen, Denmark. He won gold at the 1978 Blue Swords. Jan Hoffmann
Jan Hoffmann (born 26 October 1955) is a German figure skater who represented East Germany in competition. A four-time Olympian, he is the 1980 Olympic silver medalist, the 1974 & 1980 World Champion, and a four-time (1974, 1977–1979) European Champion. Rolf Österreich
Rolf Oesterreich (born 28 November 1952 in Rostock, East Germany) is a German figure skating coach and former competitor. With Romy Kermer, he is the 1976 Olympic silver medalist. Oesterreich began skating in Berlin. He first teamed up with Marlies Radunsky. From 1972 on he skated with Romy Kermer. He skated for the club SC Dynamo Berlin and was representing East Germany. His coach was Heidemarie Seiner-Walther. Romy Kermer and Rolf Oesterreich won the silver medal at the Winter Olympics 1976 in Innsbruck. In March 1976, they were both awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit for their Olympic success. After their figure skating career they married each other. U.S. Figure Skating is the national governing body for the sport of figure skating in the United States. It is recognized as such by the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee (USOPC) under the Ted Stevens Olympic and Amateur Sports Act and is the United States member of the International Skating Union (ISU). Although the official name of the organization is "the United States Figure Skating Association," it is now known as and conducts business under the name "U.S. Figure Skating." Founded in 1921, U.S. Figure Skating regulates and governs the sport and defines and maintains the standard of skating proficiency. Bodo Bockenauer (born 22 December 1940) is a German former figure skater. He is a two-time Blue Swords champion, a three-time East German national champion, and represented the United Team of Germany at the 1960 Winter Olympics, finishing 16th. His best ISU Championship result, sixth, came at the 1962 European Championships. Career Coached by Inge Wischnewski, Bockenauer trained at SC Dynamo Berlin and represented East Germany internationally for most of his competitive career.
