Industrial Independent School District is a public school district based in the community of Vanderbilt, Texas, United States. The district currently serves an area of three hundred square miles in southern Jackson County and a portion of Victoria County. It encompasses the communities of Vanderbilt, Lolita, Inez, Francitas, La Salle, and La Ward. Francitas, Texas
Francitas is an unincorporated community in Jackson County, Texas, United States. According to the Handbook of Texas, the community had an estimated population of 760 in 2000. Geography Francitas is located at (28.8597082, -96.3385798). It is situated along FM 616 in southeastern Jackson County, approximately 28 miles south of El Campo and 30 miles east of Victoria. History A small colony of French families settled in the area during the late 1890s and soon thereafter, railroad employees named the community Francitas. The Valley Fruit Farm and Garden Company promoted the community by publicly selling lots in 1909. A year later, acreage purchased from local rancher Lafayette Ward was surveyed into additional lots for settlement. The Francitas post office was established in 1911, with C.O. La Ward, Texas
La Ward is a city in Jackson County, Texas, United States. The population was 213 at the 2010 census. Geography La Ward is located at (28.845036, –96.465659), at the junction of State Highway 172 and FM 616 in southern Jackson County, south of Ganado and southeast of Edna, the county seat. The nearest large city is Victoria, west of La Ward. The U.S. Census Bureau lists the total city area at , all of it land. History The community emerged on the coastal prairie in 1904 with the arrival of the St. Louis, Brownsville and Mexico Railway. It was named for Lafayette Ward, a local person who became a leader in introducing Hereford, Brahman, and Jersey cattle to Texas. By 1914, La Ward had developed into a cattle and shipping center. Inez ( ) is a census-designated place (CDP), on Interstate 69/U.S. Highway 59 fifteen miles northeast of Victoria, Texas, near the Jackson County, Texas line in Victoria County, Texas, United States. The population was 2,098 at the 2010 census. It is included in the Victoria, Texas, Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name is that of a daughter of a railroad developer. History In the late 17th century, a French colony called Fort Saint Louis existed near Inez as part of the French claim to the area. Lolita is a census-designated place (CDP) in Jackson County, Texas, United States. The population was 555 at the 2010 census. History The area around Lolita was first settled in the 1840s by Isaac N. Mitchell, who ran a plantation there. Lolita was established in 1909 and named for Lolita Reese, the granddaughter of a veteran of the Texas Revolution. The following year, a post office opened in Lolita, and the St. Louis, Brownsville and Mexico Railway built a switch there.
