Indra Bania
Indra Bania ( as, ইন্দ্ৰ বনিয়া; 24 December 1942 – 25 March 2015) was an Indian theatre actor, playwright, film actor and director from Assam. His performance in Jahnu Barua's ''Halodhia Choraye Baodhan Khai'' earned him the Silver Leopard Best Actor's award at the Locarno International Film Festival. He was the recipient of the Natasurya Phani Sarma Award. Biography Early life Bania was born at Dhalpur village in North Lakhimpur, Assam on 24 December 1942 to an indigenous Brittial Bania (an indigenous Assamese community recognised as a Scheduled Caste). After completing his primary education, in 1958, he came to Guwahati for higher education. While continuing his studies, he began his acting career as a stand up comedian. He started to earn a living through popular comedy shows on the stage, performing across Assam. After completing his education, he worked at Assam State Electricity Board until he retired in 2002. North Lakhimpur ( ) is a city and a municipal board in Lakhimpur district in the Indian state of Assam, about northeast of Guwahati. It is the district headquarters of Lakhimpur district. Agnisnaan is a 1985 Indian Assamese language drama film directed by Bhabendra Nath Saikia. The film is based on Saikia's novel titled ''Antareep''. The film starred Indra Bania, Kashmiri Saikia Baruah, Chetana Das, Ashok Deka, Moloya Goswami, Arjun Guha Thakuria, Arun Nath and Biju Phukan. Music Of Assam
The music of Assam consists various genres of folk and modern music, drawing its artistic basis from the history of Assam, from Assamese culture and its ancient traditions. In recent times, starting from the late eighties, popular artistes have modernized the music catering to local popular demand. A basic characteristic of the indigenous ethnic music of Assam is its descending scale similar to East Asian music which distinguishes it from the '' Mode-based'' or folk music ''( Raaga-based)'' forms from the rest of India. Phani Sarma
Phani Sarma (1910–1970) was an Indian theatre actor, playwright, film actor and director. Beginning as a stage actor, he appeared in the first film ever made in Assamese cinema, '' Joymati'', in 1935. Sarma was conferred with the title "Natasurya" for his contribution towards Assamese drama. He acted in and directed ''Siraj'' in 1948 and ''Piyoli Phukan'' in 1955. Film career In 1933 Phani Sarma starred in the first Assamese film, '' Joymati,'' directed by Jyoti Prasad Agarwala. Sarma went on the star in Agarwalla's second picture ''Indramalati''. In 1955 he directed and starred in ''Piyoli Phukan'', also playing the film's protagonist Pioli Phukan. His last film was '' Ito Sito Bahuto'' in 1963 where he appeared as an actor rather than taking the director's helm.
