''Indonesia Today'' is the first English-language newscast ever carried by a private television network in Indonesia. It appeared on RCTI from 1 November 1996 to 31 August 2001. On 31 August 2001, Indonesia Today was discontinued due to lack of ratings and replaced by Indonesian-language criminal news, ''Sergap''. RCTI
RCTI (''Rajawali Citra Televisi Indonesia'') is a West Jakarta-based Indonesian free-to-air television network. It is best known for its soap operas, celebrity bulletins, news, and sports programmes. It was first launched in 1989, originally as a local pay television operator that broadcasts mostly foreign programmes, before switching to free-to-air terrestrial network a year later. History In October 1987, state broadcaster TVRI lost its monopoly when the government allowed private television networks to begin broadcasting. RCTI was officially inaugurated on the morning of 24 August 1989 by President Suharto as Indonesia's first privately owned commercial television network. Desi Anwar
Desi Anwar (born 11 December 1962, in Bandung, West Java) is an Indonesian news presenter. She worked for RCTI in Jakarta from 1990 to 1999. She then moved to news web portal Astaga.com before returning to television and joining Indonesia's first 24-hour news channel, Metro TV, in 2001. In 2015, she joined CNN Indonesia and is currently hosting Insight with Desi Anwar. Education Desi Anwar holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in French and European Studies from the University of Sussex, England, and a Master of Arts degree in Indonesian and Malay Studies from SOAS, University of London. Anwar was a Jefferson Fellow at the East-West Center, Honolulu, USA, in 1999. She speaks Indonesian, English and French. Helmi Johannes (born 23 March 1961) is an Indonesian television news presenter, newscaster and executive producer. Helmi Johannes now works for the Indonesian service of the Voice of America (VOA), based in Washington, DC. Helmi is responsible for the overall production, program development, talent and day-to-day operations of Voice of America Indonesia, VOA Indonesian television programming. Biography Helmi Johannes was born in Yogyakarta (city), Yogyakarta, Indonesia, the son of Herman Johannes, an Indonesian professor and a former Rector (academia), rector of the Gadjah Mada University.
