Indietracks
Indietracks was an annual indie pop music festival at the Midland Railway in Butterley, Derbyshire, UK. The main site was located at Swanwick Junction. Bands played in variety of locations, including a restored church, in a train shed, and on the moving trains themselves. The event was staffed by volunteers, with the proceeds from the festival going towards the upkeep and renovation of the site and trains. The Tuts
The Tuts were an English DIY pop punk, "three-tone" band from Hayes, Greater London. They received extensive coverage from alternative music radio, most notably Amazing Radio, and from music websites such as Louder Than War who published multiple articles on the group, calling them "one of the UK's most exciting bands". The band, particularly frontwoman Nadia Javed, were the subject of a feature in the ITV series ''Young, British and Muslim'' in April 2018. Initially influenced by contemporary indie and alternative rock, their back-to-basics sound and feminist politics led to comparisons with older genres such as punk, C86 and riot grrrl. Martha (band)
Martha are a rock band from Pity Me, a village in County Durham in the North East of England. After singles on their own Discount Horse label and Odd Box Records, their debut album ''Courting Strong'', was released on Fortuna Pop! and Salinas Records in 2014. As of 2022 they have released four full-length albums on cult UK and US based independent record labels. They have described themselves as queer, straight edge, vegan and anarchist. They have no designated frontperson and all contribute vocals. Two members of Martha previously founded (and still play in) the band ONSIND, and another lead the band No Ditching. Desperate Journalist are an English, London-based post-punk band, formed in 2012. They released their debut album, the self-titled '' Desperate Journalist'', in 2014, on Fierce Panda Records. A second album, '' Grow Up'', was released in March 2017. The band's third album, ''In Search of the Miraculous'', was released in February 2019. Midland Railway – Butterley
The Midland Railway – Butterley is a heritage railway at Butterley, near Ripley in Derbyshire. History Overview The ''Midland Railway – Butterley'' lies on the Ambergate to Pye Bridge line of the old Midland Railway, a line once connecting the Derwent Valley branch of Midland Main Line to the Erewash Valley. A branch leading to the south to Ripley station was in use from 1889 until 1923. The sole historical station on the line is Butterley, which opened in 1875. The current line extends westwards from Codnor Park Junction on the Erewash Valley Line, although the present-day heritage line terminates at Hammersmith. The line currently runs for from Hammersmith via Butterley, Swanwick Junction and Riddings to Ironville. It is operated and maintained by the Midland Railway Trust. The Just Joans
The Just Joans are a Scottish Indie Pop band formed in Glasgow in 2005. Fronted by siblings David Pope (guitars, vocals, songwriting) and Katie Pope (vocals, artwork), the band gained cult popularity for their "acerbic yet winsome Scottish indiepop". Initially a bedroom lo-fi recording project, David Pope in time enlisted more members to expand the recorded sound and to take the music live. Kero Kero Bonito (KKB) are a British indie pop band formed in South London in 2011. The band consists of vocalist Sarah Midori Perry and producers and multi-instrumentalists Gus Lobban and Jamie Bulled. Their musical style consists of indie pop, electropop, dance-rock, hyperpop, and Bubblegum music, bubblegum pop. The Spook School (band)
The Spook School were a British four-piece indie pop band from Edinburgh, Scotland. The name is a reference to the Glasgow School. The band's lyrics explore "gender, sexuality and queer issues" with themes such as "fluidity and the lack of a binary in gender". Their music is often compared to bands on the C86 compilation, such as The Shop Assistants, as well as The Buzzcocks; the band also lists David Bowie as an influence. Swanwick Junction Railway Station
Swanwick Junction railway station (pronounced "Swannick") is a heritage railway station situated on the former Ambergate to Pye Bridge Line which closed in 1968, but has been partially reopened by the Midland Railway - Butterley. Despite the station's name it is some distance from Swanwick. Previously, there was originally no station here (during BR/LMS days), only a junction with the Swanwick Colliery Branch Line. However, when the line was restored, Swanwick campus was the centre for the main activities of the Midland Railway - Butterley, and the station gives access to the attractions there. The station itself is within walking distance of Butterley railway station to the west. The station has four platforms. Platform No. 1 is the southernmost and is a bay platform. Big Joanie is a British punk trio formed in London in 2013.
