Indiana State Road 342
State Road 342 (SR 342) was a north–south State Road in Vigo County, Indiana. Running for about along the east side of the Terre Haute Regional Airport, connecting the airport to SR 42. The close proximity to a runway at the airport would result in its removal as a public roadway. Route description SR 342 began at the entrance to the Indiana Air National Guard's 181st Fighter Wing, housed at Terre Haute Regional Airport. The road ran north near the end of a runway at the airport to an intersection with SR 42. SR 342 ended at SR 42, but the roadway continued north as Chamberlain Street. The final traffic count for SR 342 was in 2013, where 863 vehicles travel the road on average each day. Terre Haute Regional Airport
Terre Haute Regional Airport is a civil-military public airport in Terre Haute, in Vigo County, Indiana, east of the city center. The FAA's National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems for 2011–2015 categorized it as a ''general aviation'' facility. It is also the location of Hulman Field Air National Guard Base of the Indiana Air National Guard. History Originally called Hulman Field, the airport dates to 1943 when ground was broken on a site donated to the city of Terre Haute by businessman Anton "Tony" Hulman, Jr. The airport was dedicated on October 3, 1944, and had three runways, taxiways, apron area, and a terminal building. Indiana State Road 42
State Road 42 (SR 42) is an east–west road in Central Indiana. Its western terminus is at US 40 in Terre Haute. Its eastern terminus is at State Road 67 and State Road 144 in Mooresville. Route description From the western terminus with US 40, SR 42 heads east out of Terre Haute, paralleling Interstate 70 (I-70). Before leaving Terre Haute SR 42 passes by the Terre Haute International Airport. The service road to the airport is State Road 342 (SR 342). SR 42 heads east from Terre Haute passing over I-70. The 181st Intelligence Wing (181 IW) is a unit of the Indiana Air National Guard, stationed at Terre Haute Air National Guard Base, Indiana. If activated to federal service, the Wing is gained by the United States Air Force Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Agency. The Indiana Air National Guard (IN ANG) is the aerial militia of the State of Indiana, United States of America. It is, along with the Indiana Army National Guard, an element of the Indiana National Guard. As state militia units, the units in the Indiana Air National Guard are not in the normal United States Air Force chain of command. They are under the jurisdiction of the Governor of Indiana though the office of the Indiana Adjutant General unless they are federalized by order of the President of the United States.
