Indian Ocean Games
The Indian Ocean Island Games (french: Jeux des îles de l'océan Indien) is a quadrennial multi-sport event from Indian Ocean island nations. The Games was created by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in 1977 and currently gather the island nations and territories of Mauritius, Seychelles, Comoros, Madagascar, Mayotte, Réunion and the Maldives. The number of athletes who participate has increased over the years, it went from 1000 athletes in 1979 to over 1500 participants in 2003 and 2007 and over 2000 participants in 2019. Origins From 1947 until 1963, a precursor called Indian Ocean Games Triangulaire was organized between Madagascar, Mauritius and Réunion. In 1963, a football match in Madagascar between Mauritius and Madagascar was abandoned at 1-1 after 54 minutes, and Madagascar declared themselves as winners of the tournament. Indian Ocean Games Triangulaire
The Indian Ocean Games Triangulaire was a triangulaire, or tournament between three teams, between Mauritius, Réunion, and Madagascar. It was the predecessor to the Indian Ocean Island Games. The triangulaire was held every year from 1947 until 1958, and then once more in 1963. In 1963, the last game, Mauritius vs Madagascar was abandoned in the 54th minute, which gave Madagascar the win that year. After that, Mauritius did not want to play Madagascar, and the tournament was not held. In the football portion, Mauritius participated along with Réunion, Seychelles, Comoros, and the Maldives. 2015 Indian Ocean Island Games
The 2015 Indian Ocean Island Games, officially known as Jeux des îles de l'océan Indien Réunion 2015 or simply JIOI Réunion 2015, was the 9th edition of this multi-sport event for athletes representing the National Olympic Committees of Indian Ocean island nations. It was held in La Réunion from August 1 – August 9, 2015. Organisation Venues The Games Participating IOCs Over 2,000 athletes, from 7 countries, participated in the 2015 Indian Ocean Island Games. 2011 Indian Ocean Island Games
The 2011 Indian Ocean Island Games were the 8th edition of the competition, held in Victoria, Seychelles. The last edition was held in 2007 in Madagascar. The Games' mascot was a Kato Nwar, the national bird of the Seychelles. Moka
Moka () is a village in Mauritius located in the Moka District, the western part of the village also lies in the Plaines Wilhems District. Since 1967 it forms part of Constituency No. 8 Quartier Militaire and Moka. The village is administered by the Moka Village Council under the aegis of the Moka District Council. Victoria () is the capital and largest city of the Republic of Seychelles, situated on the north-eastern side of Mahé island, the archipelago's main island.
