Indian English Poetry
Indian English poetry is the oldest form of Indian English literature. Indian poets writing in English have succeeded to nativize or indianize English in order to reveal typical Indian situations. Henry Louis Vivian Derozio is considered the first poet in the lineage of Indian English poetry followed by Rabindranath Tagore, Sri Aurobindo, Sarojini Naidu, Michael Madhusudan Dutt, and Toru Dutt, among others. History Nissim Ezekiel is considered to be a pioneering figure in modern Indian English Poetry.His first book, ''A Time to Change'', was published in 1952. The significant poets of the post-Derozio and pre-Ezekiel times are Toru Dutt, Michael Madhusudan Dutt, Sarojini Naidu, Sri Aurobindo and Rabindranath Tagore. Indian English Literature
Indian English literature (IEL), also referred to as Indian Writing in English (IWE), is the body of work by writers in India who write in the English language but whose native or co-native language could be one of the numerous languages of India. Its early history began with the works of Henry Louis Vivian Derozio and Michael Madhusudan Dutt followed by Rabindranath Tagore and Sri Aurobindo. R. K. Narayan, Mulk Raj Anand and Raja Rao contributed to the growth and popularity of Indian English fiction in the 1930s. It is also associated, in some cases, with the works of members of the Indian diaspora who subsequently compose works in English. It is frequently referred to as Indo-Anglian literature. Dilip Chitre
Dilip Purushottam Chitre (17 September 1938 – 10 December 2009) was one of the foremost Indian poets and critics to emerge in the post Independence India. Apart from being a notable bilingual writer, writing in Marathi and English, he was also a teacher, a painter, a filmmaker and a magazine columnist. Biography Chitre was born in Baroda on 17 September 1938 into a Marathi speaking CKP community. His father Purushottam Chitre used to publish a periodical named ''Abhiruchi''. His grandfather, Kashinath Gupte was an expert on Tukaram and this served as Chitre's introduction to the poet. Chitre's family moved to Mumbai in 1951 and he published his first collection of poems in 1960. Anuradha Bhattacharyya
Anuradha Bhattacharyya (born 6 December 1975) is an Indian writer of poetry and fiction in English. Her novel ''One Word'' was awarded Best Book of the Year 2016 by the Chandigarh Sahitya Akademi. She is Associate Professor of English in Post Graduate Government College, Sector-11, Chandigarh. Life and career Anuradha Bhattacharyya was born to Tapan Kumar Bhattacharyya and Chitra Bhattacharyya on 6 December 1975 in Calcutta, India. Dileep Jhaveri
Dileep Manubhai Jhaveri ( gu, દિલીપ મનુભાઈ ઝવેરી) is a Gujarati language poet, translator, playwright, editor and physician from Mumbai, India. Biography Jhaveri was born on 3 April 1943 in Mumbai, India to Manubhai Jhaveri. He serves on the editorial board of ''Kobita Review'', a Kolkata-based bilingual (Bengali and English) journal, and is ''Muse Indias contributing editor for Gujarati language. Works Jhaveri published a collection of Gujarati poetry entitled ''Pandukavyo ane Itar'' in 1989, followed by ''Khandit Kand ane Pachhi'' (2014) and ''Kavita Vishe Kavita'' (2017). ''Vyasochchvas'' (2003) is a play written by him, which was translated into English as ''A Breath of Vyas'' by Kamal Sanyal. Bibhu Padhi
Bibhu Padhi, born Bibhu Prasad Padhi, on 16 January 1951, is an Indian poet. He writes in English and Odia, and is also a translator and literary critic. Early life Padhi was born on 16 January 1951 in Cuttack, Odisha. He studied at Ravenshaw Collegiate School and Ranihat High School, Cuttack, then joined Ravenshaw College, Cuttack (now Ravenshaw University), for a Bachelor of Arts degree in English literature in 1969 and Master of Arts in English literature in 1971. He received a Doctor of Letters (D.Litt.) from Utkal University in 1991 in English literature. He is married to Minakshi Padhi, a writer and academic. Madan Gopal Gandhi
Dr. Madan G. Gandhi (31 August 1940 – 26 January 2019), a visiting fellow of St. John's College, Cambridge, was an educationalist, litterateur and poet. Early childhood Gandhi was born to Srimati Savitri Devi and Kewal Krishan on 31 August 1940 in Lahore. The family moved to India after the partition and Madan did his FSc from S.A. Hoshang Merchant
Hoshang Dinshaw Merchant (born 1947) is a poet from India. Most of his writings are in English. He is best known for his anthology on gay writing titled ''Yaarana''. Early years and education Hoshang Merchant was born in 1947 to a working class Zoroastrian family in Mumbai, India. He was educated at Xavier's Lads Academy and St. Xavier's College, Mumbai. He has a Masters from Occidental College, Los Angeles. At Purdue, he studied Renaissance and Modernism, and for his PhD (1981), wrote a dissertation on Anaïs Nin. Anjum Hasan is an Indian novelist, short story writer, poet, and editor. She graduated in philosophy from North-Eastern Hill University in Shillong, Meghalaya.
