The India national under-16 basketball team, is controlled by the Basketball Federation of India and represents India at the international under-17 (under age 17) and under-16 (under age 16) basketball competitions. The best performance of the team so far is securing 5th place at the 2022 FIBA U16 Asian Championship. The Basketball Federation of India (BFI) is the governing and controlling body of basketball in India. It is responsible for the development and promotion of the sports authority of India at all levels. The FIBA Under-17 Basketball World Cup (formerly FIBA Under-17 World Championship) is the under-17 men's world basketball championship organised by the International Basketball Federation (FIBA). The event was held for the first time in July 2010, and is held biennially. 2022 FIBA U16 Asian Championship
The 2022 FIBA Under-16 Asian Championship was the sixth edition of the under-16 basketball championship in the International Basketball Federation's FIBA Asia zone. The tournament was held in Doha, Qatar from 12 to 19 June 2022. This marked the return of the Under-16 competition which was last held 4 years ago in China. successfully defended their U16 title against in the Final, 94-63, while retained the Bronze Medal after defeating first-time semifinalists in the Battle for Third Place, 89-62. 2013 FIBA Asia Under-16 Championship
The 2013 FIBA Asia Under-16 Championship was the qualifying tournament for FIBA Asia at the 2014 FIBA Under-17 World Championship. The tournament was held in Tehran, Iran from September 25 to October 4. China successfully defended their title against the first time finalists, the Philippines, 85-78, in the championship match considered as the most competitive finals so far in FIBA Asia Under-16 Championship history. 2015 FIBA Asia Under-16 Championship
The 2015 FIBA Asia Under-16 Championship was the qualifying tournament for FIBA Asia at the 2016 FIBA Under-17 World Championship. The tournament was supposed to be held in Bangalore, India from July 2 to 12, but according to FIBA's official tournament website, it is scheduled to be played in Jakarta, Indonesia from October 29 to November 7. South Korea defeated Chinese Taipei in the Finals, 78–69 to capture their first FIBA Asia Under-16 Championship after finishing second in the first two installments of the competition. Three-time defending champions China on the other hand managed to capture bronze against Japan, 80–58. The 2017 FIBA Under-16 Asian Championship (also known as the 2018 FIBA Under-16 Asian Championship) was the qualifying tournament for FIBA Asia at the 2018 FIBA Under-17 Basketball World Cup. The tournament was held in Foshan, China from 2 to 8 April 2018. The competition was scheduled to be played in Dalang, China from 26 March to 1 April 2018. The top four teams would represent FIBA Asia to the 2018 FIBA U17 Basketball World Cup. Qualification Aside from the host nation and the defending champions, each of FIBA Asia's six subzones also gets one berth each, except for the Persian Gulf and West Asian subzones, which were allocated two berths each.
