Indexi
Indexi was a Bosnian and former Yugoslav rock band popular in Yugoslavia. It formed in 1962 in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and disbanded in 2001 when singer Davorin Popović died. Some of their most notable songs are "Svijet u kome živim" and "Negdje u kraju, u zatišju" with lyrics by Želimir Altarac Čičak, "Plima", "Sve ove godine", "Sanjam" and "Bacila je sve niz rijeku", which was later covered by many other ex-Yugoslavian groups, notably Crvena jabuka. Indexi formed in 1962, and their name was derived from the "Indeks" which was a student's grade log. They began by making instrumental covers of popular hits, but in 1967 started composing. They were known as the "Pioneers of Psychedelic Rock", and were inspired by many bands like the Beatles, Yes, and The Guess Who. Želimir Altarac Čičak
Želimir Altarac "Čičak" (21 August 1947 – 26 March 2021) was a Bosnian rock promoter, poet, songwriter, music critic, and publicist. His pioneering work with various Sarajevo-based rock acts, in both creative and organizational capacity, has made him a well known behind-the-scenes figure on the country's music scene. Early life Widely known as Čičak ( burdock) for his curly hair, Altarac attended the First Sarajevo Gymnasium from 1961 until 1965, a period during which he grew increasingly infatuated with Western pop culture, specifically rock music coming from the United States and United Kingdom that had already been gaining a devoted audience among the youth of communist Yugoslavia. Teenage Čičak thus often found himself skipping gymnasium classes in pursuit of activities he was more interested in – organizing local rock gigs, writing and reciting poetry, moderating music events, and editing the gymnasium newsletter ''Polet''. Slobodan Kovačević
Slobodan "Bodo" Kovačević (29 December 1946 – 22 March 2004) was one of the greatest rock guitarists in former Yugoslavia, with unprecedented virtuosity even to these days. He began his musical career in early sixties with the Sarajevo band "Wanderers" and few years later in the mid sixties joined Indexi, where Davorin Popović was already a singer. Biography His birth certificate is registered as Slobodan A. Kovačević, with the middle initial representing the name of his father Adem. During his musical career, he became widely known by his nickname "Bodo". He graduated with a degree in architecture from the University of Sarajevo, but his love for music won him over. Davorin Popović
Davorin Popović (23 September 1946 – 18 June 2001) was a Bosnian singer and songwriter, born in Bosnia and Herzegovina. He was well known throughout the former Yugoslavia. He was the lead singer and frontman of the progressive rock, progressive and pop rock band Indexi throughout most of their career. He and his band "Indexi" became founders of specific music style in former Yugoslavia known as "Sarajevo pop-rock school" who later influenced other bands and singers in Sarajevo and other parts of Yugoslavia. Personally, he was popularly associated with the 1960s Bohemianism, bohemian lifestyle of Sarajevo. In his youth, he was a successful basketball player. Milić Vukašinović
Milić Vukašinović ( sr-cyr, Милић Вукашиновић; born 9 March 1950) is a Yugoslav musician, the founder of the hard rock band Vatreni Poljubac as well as one-time drummer of the famous Yugoslav rock bands Bijelo Dugme and Indexi. A rock'n'roll pioneer in the city of Sarajevo where he spent his formative years, Vukašinović is also known for his composing and songwriting work with some of the biggest Yugoslav commercial folk music stars such as Hanka Paldum and Toma Zdravković. Sinan Alimanović (born 11 February 1954) is a Bosnian jazz pianist, organist, composer, conductor, arranger and educator. Biography Sinan Alimanović has worked with American and European jazz musicians such as Randy Brecker, Harvie S, Duško Gojković, Erich Kleinschuster, Alex Blake, Victor Lewis, Barbara Hendricks, Gianni Basso, Aladar Pege, Vaclav Zahradnik, Lee Harper, Csaba Deseo, Jim Mullen, Robert Balzar, Jože Privšek, Miljenko Prohaska, Tony Lakatos, Tony Fisher, Ladislav Fidri, Stjepko Gut, Petar Ugrin, Bobby Sanabria and many others. ''Indexi'' is the Bosnian music award. It given by the Indexi Award Direction and Indexi Award Programme Committee. The award was established in 2002 in Zenica by Josip Dujmović. The initial name of the award was ''Davorin'', honouring one of the most famous Bosnian pop/rock singers Davorin Popović from Indexi. In 2008, the award was renamed Indexi, after Davorin's band. Đorđe Novković
Đorđe Novković (; 2 September 1943 – 6 May 2007) was a Croatian songwriter who was known for his work in Yugoslavia and Croatia. Novković composed more than 2,500 songs and sold approximately 20 million records. He is also known as the father of popular Croatian singer Boris Novković. Biography Novković was born to a Serb father Vukašin and a Croat mother Danica during World War II in the village of Vladimirci on the German-occupied territory of what only a few years earlier used to be Kingdom of Yugoslavia's Drina Banovina. He moved to Sarajevo at an early age, so his musical talent was discovered very early, and he joined the musical school in Sarajevo at the age of 6. Ranko Rihtman
Ranko Rihtman (Sarajevo, ) is Bosnian pianist, composer, arranger, and conductor. Education Ranko Rihtman attended Sarajevo Music Academy, where he graduated at the Department of Ethnomusicology and Conducting, followed by attendance at the Berklee College of Music, in Boston, USA, in 1982 and 1983, where he completed professor Herb Pomeroy's Jazz Composition and Arranging class. Career Since the 1960s, Rihtman played the organ and piano in several pop and rock bands, such as Čičci, Ambasadori, and most notably with Indexi, of whom he was a longtime member. Vlado Pravdić
Vladimir "Vlado" Pravdić (born 6 December 1949) is a Bosnian musician most famous as the organist of the Yugoslav rock group Bijelo dugme from 1974 to 1976 and again from 1978 to 1987. Born in Sarajevo, PR Bosnia-Herzegovina, FPR Yugoslavia as the only child of a Croat father and a Ukrainian mother, Pravdić's parents divorced during his adolescence as the youngster remained living with his mother. Pravdić enrolled in musical school at the age of seven and learned to play the piano. After completing his secondary schooling, he studied Physics at the University of Sarajevo's Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics.
