Nagaland
Nagaland () is a landlocked state in the northeastern region of India. It is bordered by the Indian states of Arunachal Pradesh to the north, Assam to the west, Manipur to the south and the Sagaing Region of Myanmar to the east. Its capital city is Kohima and its largest city is Dimapur. 2004 Dimapur Bombings
The 2004 Dimapur bombings, were a series of two coordinated attacks carried out by Islamist terrorists on the morning of Saturday, 2 October 2004 in Dimapur that targeted passengers at the Dimapur Railway Station and shoppers at the Hong Kong Market during the morning rush hour. The attack killed 30 people and about 100 others were injured. The attacks occurred simultaneously at around 9:30 a.m. The attacks occurred—one at the Dimapur Railway Station, significantly damaging the platform at its surroundings and the other at the Hong Kong Market. To date, it was the deadliest terrorist attack in Nagaland. 2023 Nagaland Legislative Assembly Election
Legislative Assembly elections were held in Nagaland on 27 February 2023 to elect all 60 members of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly. 2023 Kohima Fire
On 27 February 2023, a massive fire broke in Kohima, the capital of Nagaland causing complete damage to Mao Market and NN Market, one of the biggest commercial areas in Kohima. Over 200 shops were gutted which is suspected to have been caused by an electrical short circuit as per police report. The incident took place on the polling day of the 2023 Nagaland Legislative Assembly election. Market The Mao Market was opened on 20 May 1999 by Neiphiu Rio, the then-Home Minister of Nagaland. It housed a variety of shops including vegetables, meat products, groceries, clothing and cosmetics. Fire The fire reportedly broke out at approximately 5:00 p.m. on Monday, 27 February 2023. The fire was first spotted on the ground floor of the three-storeyed Mao Market commercial building. 2022 Nagaland Olympic & Paralympic Games
The 2nd Nagaland Olympic & Paralympic Games was a multi-sport event held from 22 to 27 August 2022 in Kohima. The participating delegations included 16 delegations from all districts under Nagaland. 2021 Nagaland Killings
On 4 December 2021, a unit of 21st Para Special Forces of the Indian Army killed six civilians near the village of Oting in the Mon District of Nagaland, India. Eight more civilians and a soldier were killed in subsequent violence. The killings were widely condemned with many calling to repeal and revoke the Armed Forces Special Powers Act. 2017 Nagaland Protests
The 2017 Nagaland protests were a series of protests and civil unrest in the northeastern Indian state of Nagaland that began on 27 January 2017 following the announcement of the 33% women reservation in the Civic Elections by the Government of Nagaland with violence beginning on the night of 31 January after the killings of two protestors by security forces. The civil unrest began in Dimapur, and later spread to various districts of Nagaland. The unrest grew rapidly after the killings, with people from different parts of Nagaland joining in the protests.
