Beer production in Australia has traditionally been dominated by regional producers. Since the 1980s, there have been a steady stream of takeovers and amalgamations, and now the two major producers (who were once Australian-owned) are Carlton & United Breweries (CUB) and Lion. In December 2011, CUB became a subsidiary of British multinational SABMiller (the world's then-second-largest international brewing company) and in October 2016 CUB became 100% owned by Anheuser-Busch InBev ( AB InBev) the world's largest brewing company, based in Belgium. AB InBev then sold CUB to Japanese company Asahi Breweries on 1 June 2020. Since October 2009, Lion has been a subsidiary of Japanese brewer, Kirin Holdings Company Limited a brewing company established in 1885. Beer
Beer is one of the oldest and the most widely consumed type of alcoholic drink in the world, and the third most popular drink overall after water and tea. Carlton Midstrength
Carlton Midstrength (or Carlton Mid) is an Australian lager, brewed by Carlton & United Beverages, a subsidiary of the Foster's Group. The beer is currently one of the three mid-strength beers available, which is the second largest beer segment in Australia. The alcohol content is 3.0%, and they are available in 375ml Bottles, 375ml Cans which are 0.9 standard drink and 750ml Bottle and they are 1.8 standard drink. Bittering hops and hop extracts are combined to give the hop-character like tastes in the drink. 4 Pines Brewing Company
The 4 Pines Brewing Company is an Australian craft brewery and hospitality business based on the Northern Beaches of Sydney. First established in 2008 as a 5hL brewpub in Manly, New South Wales the company opened a new brewing facility in Brookvale in 2011 with a 50hL brewhouse, bottling line, and bar. In 2017, 4 Pines Brewing Company was purchased by AB InBev through its venture capital arm, ZX Ventures. This allowed the company to use the brewing and distribution network of Carlton & United Breweries (CUB) which was acquired by AB InBev in 2016. In 2019, CUB confirmed that 4 Pines Brewing Company would be included in the sale of CUB to Asahi Breweries. Australian International Beer Awards
Australian International Beer Awards (AIBA) is an annual brewing competition that commenced in 1992. The AIBA is undertaken by the Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria (RASV). Judging of the awards is conducted at Melbourne Showgrounds, with the Awards presentation dinner held during Good Beer Week in Melbourne, Australia. The awards were originally the ‘National Beer and Brewing Awards’ and operated in a partnership between RASV and the University of Ballarat. In 1995 the awards became an international competition, with a field of 201 competitors and entries from New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Canada, Indonesia, Malta and Tonga. It was at these awards that the first international winner was announced, ''Cisk Export Premium Lager'' by Simonds Farsons Cisk of Malta winning the Grand Champion Beer award. Currumbin ( ) is a coastal suburb in the City of Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia. In the , Currumbin had a population of 2,920 people. Geography The suburb extends from Currumbin Creek in the north to Wyberba Street in the south. The Pacific Motorway bounds the suburb to the west and the Coral Sea to the east. The Gold Coast Highway enters the suburb from the north ( Palm Beach) and exits to the south ( Tugun). The Balter Brewing Company is an Australian craft brewery business based in Currumbin, Queensland. The company was established in 2016 by multiple investors including Australian Surfing Champions Mick Fanning, Joel Parkinson, Josh Kerr and Bede Durbidge Balter Brewing Company was sold to Carlton & United Breweries in 2019. Healesville is a town in Victoria, Australia, 52 km north-east from Melbourne's central business district, located within the Shire of Yarra Ranges local government area. Matilda Bay Brewing Company
The Matilda Bay Brewing Company was a West Australian brewery. It was the first new brewery opened in Australia since World War II and Australia's first craft brewery. Originating from small batches brewed for the Sail and Anchor Hotel in 1984, their main brewery opened in 1989 in a prominent building on the Stirling Highway occupied by Ford Motor Company. Cascade Brewery is a brewery established in 1824 in South Hobart, Tasmania and is the oldest continually operating brewery in Australia. As well as beer, the site also produces a range of non-alcoholic products. It is home to a function centre, as well as operating tourism related ventures including guided tours and a retail outlet. History The Cascade estate was originally a saw milling operation, run by a partnership called Macintosh and Degraves Sawmills.
