Independent Autonomists (Trentino)
The Independent Autonomists (''Autonomisti Indipendenti'', AI) was a social-liberal Italian political party active in Aosta Valley. It was founded in March 1991 by Ilario Lanivi, ex-leading member of the Progressive Democratic Autonomists, and Amato Maquignaz. In April 1992 Lanivi became President of the Region at the head of a coalition composed by the Valdostan Union, the Democratic Party of the Left, the Italian Socialist Party, the Progressive Democratic Autonomists and the Italian Republican Party. Ilario Lanivi
Ilario Lanivi (born 16 April 1939) is an Italian politician from the Aosta Valley who has been highly involved in the formation of a number of political parties. He started his political career with the Christian Democrats. Biography Lanivi parted ways with them in 1970 when a faction broke off to form the left-wing Popular Democrats, which merged with the Progressive Valdostan Union in 1984 to become Progressive Democratic Autonomists, of which Lanivi was a leading member. On 9 March 1991 Lanivi and Amato Maquignaz founded a new political party, the Independent Autonomists. In April 1992, Lanivi was elected president of the Aosta Valley region, heading a coalition composed by the Valdostan Union, the Democratic Party of the Left, the Italian Socialist Party, the Progressive Democratic Autonomists and the Italian Republican Party. Progressive Democratic Autonomists
The Progressive Democratic Autonomists (french: Autonomistes démocrates progressistes, ADP) was a social-liberal and Christian-leftist Italian political party active in Aosta Valley. Its leading members included Cesare Dujany, Maurizio Martin, Angelo Pollicini, Ilario Lanivi, Giuseppe Maquignaz and Claudio Lavoyer. It was founded in 1984 by the merger of the Popular Democrats and the Progressive Valdostan Union. Its best electoral result was in 1988, when it won 11.0% of the votes and got elected four regional deputies. After the split of the Independent Autonomists led by Lanivi in 1991, the party run the 1993 regional election in coalition with the local Italian Republican Party, winning 6.5% and two regional deputies. Amato Maquignaz
Amato ( Calabrian: ; ) is an Arbëreshë ''comune'' and town in the province of Catanzaro in the Calabria region of Italy. History Amato is one of the oldest towns in Calabria. It is mentioned by the Greek philosopher Aristotle and by the Roman Pliny the Elder in one of his books. He calls it "Sinus Lametinus" (Lametino Harbour). Valdostan Union
The Valdostan Union (french: Union valdôtaine, UV), also Valdostian Union or Valdotanian Union is a regionalist and centrist political party in Aosta Valley, Italy. It represents mainly the Arpitan-speaking minority in the region. Former leader Erik Lavévaz has been the President of Aosta Valley since October 2020. The UV has been steadily represented in the Italian Parliament since 1976 and, due to the disappearance of the Christian Democracy party in the early 1990s, it has become the catch-all party of the region, similarly to the South Tyrolean People's Party in South Tyrol. The Italian Socialist Party (, PSI) was a socialist and later social-democratic political party in Italy, whose history stretched for longer than a century, making it one of the longest-living parties of the country. Founded in Genoa in 1892, the PSI dominated the Italian left until after World War II, when it was eclipsed in status by the Italian Communist Party. Italian Republican Party
The Italian Republican Party ( it, Partito Repubblicano Italiano, PRI) is a liberal and social-liberal political party in Italy. Founded in 1895, the PRI is the oldest political party still active in Italy. The PRI has old roots and a long history that began with a left-wing position, claiming descent from the political thought of Giuseppe Mazzini and Giuseppe Garibaldi. The early PRI was also known for its anti-clerical, anti-monarchist republican and later anti-fascist stances. The Popular Democrats (''Democratici Popolari'', DP) was a Christian-leftist Italian political party active in the Aosta Valley of Italy. Its leading members included Cesare Dujany, Maurizio Martin and Angelo Pollicini. The party emerged by a left-wing split (seven regional deputies out of 13) of regional Christian Democracy. Subsequently Popular Democrat leader Cesare Dujany became President of the Region at the head of a coalition composed of the Italian Socialist Party, the Valdostan Rally and the Italian Democratic Socialist Party. In the 1973 regional election DP won 22.4% of the vote and got elected eight regional deputies.
