ARA Independencia (1958)
HMS ''Warrior'' was a light aircraft carrier which was ordered in 1942 by the British Royal Navy during World War II. Construction was finished in 1945 and upon completion, the aircraft carrier was loaned to the Royal Canadian Navy from 1946 to 1948 as HMCS ''Warrior''. ''Warrior'' was returned to the Royal Navy in 1948 and entered service with the British. While in service with the Royal Navy, ''Warrior'' was modernised twice, including the installation of an angled flight deck in 1956. In 1948–1949, the ship was used in aircraft landing experiments and fitted with a rubber flight deck and in 1957, was used as the headquarters ship during nuclear testing at Christmas Island. In 1958, the vessel was sold to the Argentine Navy and entered Argentine service in 1959 as ARA ''Independencia''. Jorge Antonio Cafrune (Perico Del Carmen, Jujuy Province, Jujuy, August 8, 1937 – Buenos Aires, February 1, 1978) was one of the most popular Argentina, Argentine Folklore, folklorist singers of his time, as well as an unflagging researcher, compilator, and diffuser of the native culture. Biography Jorge Cafrune was born in the ''estancia'' "La Matilde" of El Sunchal, Perico Del Carmen, Jujuy Province, Jujuy in a family of Syrian–Lebanese origin. He completed his secondary studies in San Salvador de Jujuy, during which he took guitar classes with Nicolás Lamadrid. In 1957 he recorded his first album with the band Las voces de Huayra that in 1960 changed its name to Los cantores del Alba, with Ariel Ramírez as manager. Beginning in 1962, Cafrune began to perform at the Cosquín Festival, Cosquin Folkloric Festival. ''Independencia'' is a 2009 Filipino period drama film co-written and directed by Raya Martin. Set in the Philippines during the start of the American Occupation in the early 1900s, the film revolves around three generations of a family who flees the impending conflict in the city and tries to survive in the jungle. The grainy, black and white quality, primitive editing techniques and painted backdrops evoke the mode of filmmaking pervasive during that era. It was the first Filipino film to be screened in the Un Certain Regard section at the Cannes Film Festival when it was shown at the 2009 festival. Plot The film starts in a street scene. The people are in jovial spirits and are eager to celebrate the Philippines' newfound independence from Spain. The music and festivities then stop abruptly and they look up to the horizon.
