Incesticide
is a compilation album by the American rock band Nirvana. It consists of their 1990 non-album single "Sliver", B-sides, demos, outtakes, cover versions, and radio broadcast recordings, and as such is not the official follow-up to the band's breakthrough album, ''Nevermind''. The album was released on December 14, 1992, in Europe, and December 15, 1992, in the United States. It eventually reached number 39 on the ''Billboard'' 200. Background Early in 1992, Jonathan Poneman of Sub Pop contacted Gary Gersh, who had previously signed Nirvana to DGC Records, to inform him that Sub Pop still had a number of unreleased early Nirvana recordings in their possession. The band had intended to release the material via Sub Pop and cynically called it ''Cash Cow''. However, Sub Pop could not match Geffen's distribution network, and the band felt that getting the material maximum exposure was important. Sub Pop sold the recordings to Geffen for "a six-figure amount" on the condition that t ...

Sliver (song)
"Sliver" is a song by the American rock band Nirvana, written by vocalist and guitarist Kurt Cobain. The song was released as a non-album single by the band's then record label, Sub Pop, in September 1990. The same recording was re-released on the compilation album ''Incesticide'' by DGC in December 1992, and a new music video directed by Kevin Kerslake was released to promote the album. Origin and recording Early history "Sliver" was written in 1990. According to the 1993 biography '' Come As You Are: The Story of Nirvana'' by Michael Azerrad, the song was written during a rehearsal with Dan Peters, who briefly played drums with Nirvana while the future of his own band, Mudhoney, was uncertain. According to Azerrad, the lyrics to "Sliver" were written shortly before they were recorded, although an acoustic demo of the song, first released on Nirvana box set ''With the Lights Out'' in November 2004, suggests that Cobain had written some of the lyrics before entering the studio ...

Nirvana (band)
Nirvana was an American rock band formed in Aberdeen, Washington, in 1987. Founded by lead singer and guitarist Kurt Cobain and bassist Krist Novoselic, the band went through a succession of drummers, most notably Chad Channing, before recruiting Dave Grohl in 1990. Nirvana's success popularized alternative rock, and they were often referenced as the figurehead band of Generation X. Their music maintains a popular following and continues to influence modern rock culture. In the late 1980s, Nirvana established itself as part of the Seattle grunge scene, releasing its first album, '' Bleach'', for the independent record label Sub Pop in 1989. They developed a sound that relied on dynamic contrasts, often between quiet verses and loud, heavy choruses. After signing to major label DGC Records in 1991, Nirvana found unexpected mainstream success with "Smells Like Teen Spirit", the first single from their landmark second album ''Nevermind'' (1991). A cultural phenomenon of the ...

In Utero
''In Utero'' is the third and final studio album by American rock band Nirvana. It was released on September 21, 1993, by DGC Records. After breaking into the mainstream with their second album, ''Nevermind'' (1991), Nirvana hired Steve Albini to record ''In Utero'', seeking a more complex, abrasive sound that was also reminiscent of their debut album, ''Bleach'' (1989). Frontman Kurt Cobain took heavy inspiration from his personal struggles for the album's lyrics, many of which express feelings of angst that were common on ''Nevermind''. The album was recorded over two weeks in February 1993 at Pachyderm Studio in Cannon Falls, Minnesota. Soon after recording began, rumors circulated that DGC might not release the album due to Albini's abrasive and uncommercial sound. In response, the label hired producer Scott Litt to remix the singles "All Apologies", "Heart-Shaped Box" and "Pennyroyal Tea", upsetting both Albini and the band. ''In Utero'' was a major commercial and critica ...
