Inatio Akaruru
Inatio Akaruru (31 March 1937 – 31 January 2014) was a Cook Islands politician, cabinet minister and Deputy Prime Minister. He was a member of the Cook Islands Party. Akaruru was born on Pukapuka. He worked as a public servant before being elected as MP for Pukapuka at the 1968 election. He served as a Cabinet Minister in the government of Albert Henry and as Deputy Prime Minister to Geoffrey Henry. At the 1999 election Akaruru held the Pukapuka-Nassau seat by a single vote. The result was challenged by the Democratic Alliance Party and declared invalid. A by-election in September 1999 was also subsequently invalidated. Akaruru contested the resulting 2000 Pukapuka-Nassau by-election and was defeated. In 1977, Akaruru was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Silver Jubilee Medal. Bowls, also known as lawn bowls or lawn bowling, is a sport in which the objective is to roll biased balls so that they stop close to a smaller ball called a "jack" or "kitty". It is played on a bowling green, which may be flat (for "flat-green bowls") or convex or uneven (for "crown green bowls"). 2002 Commonwealth Games
The 2002 Commonwealth Games, officially known as the XVII Commonwealth Games and commonly known as Manchester 2002 were held in Manchester, England, from 25 July to 4 August, 2002. The 2002 Games were to be hosted in the United Kingdom to coincide with the Golden Jubilee of Elizabeth II, head of the Commonwealth, and Manchester was selected for the 2002 Games ahead of London using a recycled part of the project, which lost the 2000 Summer Olympics and Paralympics to Sydney, Australia.
