''In This Corner'' is a 1986 Canadian television film, directed by Atom Egoyan.Jennifer Burwell and Monique Tschofen, ''Image and Territory: Essays on Atom Egoyan''. The film stars Robert Wisden as Terry Dunne, an amateur boxer from Canada who becomes an unwitting pawn in The Troubles when he is convinced by Irish Republican Army operatives to help smuggle accused terrorist Ryan Shaw (Patrick Tierney) back into Ireland as part of his entourage when he travels there for a title bout. The film's cast also includes Neil Munro, Brenda Bazinet, Cedric Smith, Sean McCann and Stephen Ouimette. The film aired on CBC Television on February 2, 1986. Atom Egoyan
Atom Egoyan (; hy, Աթոմ Եղոյեան, translit=Atom Yeghoyan; born July 19, 1960) is a Canadian filmmaker. He was part of a loosely-affiliated group of filmmakers to emerge in the 1980s from Toronto known as the Toronto New Wave. Egoyan made his career breakthrough with ''Exotica (film), Exotica'' (1994), a film set primarily in and around the fictional Exotica strip club. Egoyan's most critically acclaimed film is the drama ''The Sweet Hereafter (film), The Sweet Hereafter'' (1997), for which he received two Academy Awards, Academy Award nominations, and his biggest commercial success is the erotic thriller ''Chloe (2009 film), Chloe'' (2009). Stephen Ouimette is a Canadian actor and director. Although mostly known for his stage work, particularly at the Stratford Festival of Canada and recently on Broadway in '' La Bete'', he achieved TV fame (and a Gemini Award) as the ghostly Oliver Welles in the drama ''Slings and Arrows''. In 2006, he starred in the CanStage production of ''I Am My Own Wife''. He is most notable for providing the voice for ''Beetlejuice'' on the eponymous animated series. 1st Gemini Awards
The 1st Gemini Awards were held in Toronto on 4 December 1986 to honour achievements in Canadian television. Gémeaux Award, the French version of the Gemini Awards were held for the first time this year as well. The 1985 television miniseries '' Anne of Green Gables'' was the most prominent winner. English-language television coverage of the ceremonies was originally scheduled for broadcast on CBC Television, but labour disruptions at that network forced the telecast to move to a syndicated arrangement of private television stations including Toronto's Citytv.
