''In Person'' is a Canadian music variety television series which aired on CBC Television from 1966 to 1968. Premise Regulars included Jimmy Dale's house band and vocalists the . For the first season, each episode featured a different host such as Alex Barris, Tommy Common, Doug Crosley, Don Francks, Wally Koster, and Gordon Pinsent. Guests in that season included Dave Broadfoot, Cy Leonard, Billy Meek, The Staccatos, and Flip Wilson. For the second season (1967–1968), Alan Hamel became a regular host. Guests that season included Tommy Ambrose, Jack Duffy, Ian and Sylvia, Gordon Lightfoot, and Rich Little. Some episodes were recorded at Expo 67 in Montreal, as the series often ventured outside the normal studio setting. Alfie Scopp
Alfred Scopp (15 September 1919 – 24 July 2021) was a Canadian actor who worked mostly in television series, including as a voice actor. He also worked in theatre, radio, and films. He was part of the voice cast for the 1964 Christmas special ''Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer''. Scopp was the longest-lived and one of the last surviving cast members of the special. Life and career Scopp was born on 15 September 1919 in London, England, to a Russian-Jewish father and an English mother. As a child, he and his family emigrated to Montreal, Canada. During World War II, he was part of the Royal Canadian Air Force in Newfoundland. It was during this time that he began a career in radio, working for the local station CBG (AM). In theatre, he worked in different Toronto productions, as well as working for National Film Board of Canada. Tommy Ambrose
Thomas Ambrose (born 19 October 1939) is a Canadian singer-songwriter. Tommy Ambrose was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. At age four he began gospel singing at "Youth for Christ" rallies at Massey Hall, Maple Leaf Gardens, and elsewhere under the direction of Charles B. Templeton. Until he was sixteen he performed on gospel radio shows on 590 CKEY and 1010 CFRB. Turning to popular music he made his CBC TV debut on ''Cross-Canada Hit Parade''. Shortly after that he hosted ''While We’re Young'' (summer replacement show) which then became ''The Tommy Ambrose Show'' for CBC television. CBC Television has aired National Hockey League (NHL) broadcasts under the ''Hockey Night in Canada'' (often abbreviated ''Hockey Night'' or ''HNiC'') brand that is primarily associated with its Saturday night NHL broadcasts throughout its history in various platforms. Saturday NHL broadcasts began in 1931 on the CNR Radio network, and debuted on television in 1952. The 1967 International and Universal Exposition, commonly known as Expo 67, was a general exhibition from April 27 to October 29, 1967. It was a category One World's Fair held in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. It is considered to be one of the most successful World's Fairs of the 20th century with the most attendees to that date and 62 nations participating. It also set the single-day attendance record for a world's fair, with 569,500 visitors on its third day. Expo 67 was Canada's main celebration during its centennial year. The fair had been intended to be held in Moscow, to help the Soviet Union celebrate the Russian Revolution's 50th anniversary; however, for various reasons, the Soviets decided to cancel, and Canada was awarded it in late 1962. Gordon Meredith Lightfoot Jr. (born November 17, 1938) is a Canadian singer-songwriter and guitarist who achieved international success in folk, folk-rock, and country music. Ian & Sylvia were a Canadian folk and country music duo which consisted of Ian and Sylvia Tyson, née Fricker. They began performing together in 1959 (full-time in 1961), married in 1964, and divorced and stopped performing together in 1975. Jack Duffy
Jack Duffy (September 27, 1926 – May 19, 2008) was a Canadian singer, comedian and actor. Life and career Born in Montreal, Duffy grew up in Toronto, dropping out of Central Technical School to become a singer. At age 19, he was hired as a studio singer with CBC in Toronto and in 1948 he started a three-year affiliation with Tommy Dorsey, initially as a member of the vocal group Bob-O-Links. Duffy was performing as a member of the musical act the Town Criers in 1950 and would frequently appear on CBC-TV variety shows through the 1950s. In 1957, he was hired by Norman Jewison to appear as a comedian on the CBC series ''Showtime''. Alan Hamel (born June 30, 1936) is a Canadian entertainer, producer and television host. Early life Hamel was born in Toronto of Jewish descent. He was in the television arts program at Ryerson Institute of Technology in 1954 but did not graduate. Career Hamel co-hosted the Canadian children's television series ''Razzle Dazzle'' (1961–64).
