''In Paris, A.W.O.L.'' is a 1936 American comedy film directed by Roland D. Reed and starring Lola Lane, Irene Ware and Lawrence Gray. Mank p.268 The film's sets were designed by the art director Edward C. Jewell. It was later reissued under the alternative title ''Let's Pretend We're Sweethearts''. Plot A vaudeville performer enlists in the American Expeditionary Force during World War I after falling out with his romantic and professional partner. They are later reunited in Paris. Roland D
Roland (; frk, *Hrōþiland; lat-med, Hruodlandus or ''Rotholandus''; it, Orlando or ''Rolando''; died 15 August 778) was a Frankish military leader under Charlemagne who became one of the principal figures in the literary cycle known as the Matter of France. The historical Roland was military governor of the Breton March, responsible for defending Francia's frontier against the Bretons. His only historical attestation is in Einhard's ''Vita Karoli Magni'', which notes he was part of the Frankish rearguard killed in retribution by the Basques in Iberia at the Battle of Roncevaux Pass. The story of Roland's death at Roncevaux Pass was embellished in later medieval and Renaissance literature. The first and most famous of these epic treatments was the Old French ''Chanson de Roland'' of the 11th century. John Kelly (actor)
John F. Kelly (June 6, 1901 – December 9, 1947) was an American actor whose career spanned the very end of the silent film era through the 1940s. While most of his parts were smaller, often-uncredited roles, he was occasionally given a more substantial supporting or even featured role. Life and career John F. Kelly was born in Boston, Massachusetts on June 29, 1901. He broke into the film industry in 1928 when he was cast as the chauffeur in the Fox silent film, ''Blindfold''. He would work in two more Fox films in 1928, both directed by Irving Cummings. The first was '' Dressed To Kill'', starring Mary Astor, where he played the supporting role of Biff Simpson; while the second was in the small role of a window-washer in '' Romance of the Underworld'', again starring Astor. George Humbert
George Humbert (born Umberto Gianni; July 29, 1880 – May 8, 1963) was an Italian-born American actor who appeared in more than 100 films between 1918 and the 1950s. He emigrated to the United States as a steerage passenger on board the Italian steamer ''Sannio'', which sailed from Genoa, Italy and arrived at the Port of New York in June 1907; he was examined by the U.S. immigration service on Ellis Island and allowed to enter the United States legally. He became a United States citizen in 1933. Humbert was a nephew of Italian actor Ernesto Rossi, and he served as an ensign in the Royal Italian Navy. The Duke of Abruzzi, after hearing Humbert perform, recommended that he enter the Florence Music Conservatory.
