''In Old California'' is a 1942 American Western film directed by William C. McGann starring John Wayne, Binnie Barnes and Albert Dekker. Wayne plays Tom Craig, a Boston pharmacist who relocates to Sacramento during the Gold Rush. Plot Tom Craig (John Wayne), a pharmacist, arrives in Sacramento and gets into trouble with Britt Dawson (Albert Dekker) for carrying Lacey Miller (Binnie Barnes) across a mud puddle. Tom teams up with Kegs (Edgar Kennedy) and they are thrown off the river boat by Britt’s henchmen. Tom strikes a deal with Lacey to sell his pharmaceuticals in her store. Ellen Sanford (Helen Parrish) and Tom begin a romance. Tom and Kegs organize the settlers to stop Dawson’s land-grabbing gang. Tom proposes to Ellen as she leaves for San Francisco. Helga (Patsy Kelly), Lacey's lady's maid, gun in hand, marches Kegs off to get married. Helen Parrish
Helen Virginia Parrish (March 12, 1923 – February 22, 1959) was an American stage and film actress. Career Parrish was born in Columbus, Georgia. She started in movies at the age of 4, getting her first part playing Babe Ruth's daughter in the silent film '' Babe Comes Home'' in 1927. She was featured in the ''Our Gang'' comedy shorts and sometimes played the lead character as a child, co-starring with some of the great female stars of the day. In her teens she made herself known as a kid sister. During this time she also starred opposite Deanna Durbin in several of her films, playing a jealous, spiteful rival. Their first film together, ''Mad About Music'' (1938), worked so well that they soon formed a sort of Shirley Temple/Jane Withers team in a couple of other movie confections for Universal. John Wayne Filmography
American actor, director, and producer John Wayne (1907–1979) began working on films as an extra, prop man and stuntman, mainly for the Fox Film Corporation. Paul Sutton (May 14, 1910 – January 31, 1970) was an American radio writer and actor who also acted in film. Biography He was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He is perhaps best known as one of the actors who portrayed Sergeant William Preston on the radio serial ''Challenge of the Yukon''.
