In Medias Res (band)
In Medias Res (also known as IMR) is an indie rock band from Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The band consists of Andrew Lee ( lead vocals and guitar), Ash Poon (lead guitar), Ryan Flowers ( bass) and Robert Tornroos ( drums). The band's original drummer, Steve Watts, left in 2011. After forming in 1999, In Medias Res have released one EP and two full-length albums, '' Of What Was'' (2003) and '' It Was Warm and Sunny When We First Set Out'' (2011). They have been categorized in the media as alternative, post-rock and math rock, while being stylistically compared to such bands as Pedro the Lion, Radiohead and TV on the Radio. Pedro The Lion
Pedro the Lion is an American indie rock band from Seattle, Washington, United States. David Bazan formed the band in 1995 and represented its main creative force, backed by a varying rotation of collaborating musicians. In 2006 Pedro the Lion was dissolved as Bazan went solo; Bazan reformed the band and resumed performing under the Pedro the Lion moniker in late 2017. Releasing five full-length albums and five EPs over 11 years, the band is known for its first person narrative lyrics with political and religious themes. ''It Was Warm and Sunny When We First Set Out'' is the second full-length studio album from Vancouver indie rock band In Medias Res. It was produced by Jonathan Anderson, a fellow Vancouver indie act who also worked with the band on their previous record, as well as duo Dave Carswell and John Collins. Self-released on January 4, 2011, the 10-track album was initially only available as a digital download. After the band signed with Vancouver label File Under: Music on June 23, 2011, the album was released as a hard copy on July 12. ''It Was Warm and Sunny'' was produced by Jonathan Anderson, who had worked with the band on their 2003 record, '' Of What Was''. Mushroom Studios was a music recording facility located in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada with a long history in Canadian music. It has now been relocated to Toronto, Ontario, Canada. CiTR-FM, is a Canadian FM radio station based out of the University of British Columbia's Student Union Building in the University Endowment Lands, just west of the city limits of Vancouver, British Columbia. The Appleseed Cast is an American rock band from Lawrence, Kansas. The band was founded in the early days of emo by singer-guitarist Christopher Crisci and drummer Louie Ruiz. In Medias Res
A narrative work beginning ''in medias res'' (, "into the middle of things") opens in the midst of the plot (cf. ''ab ovo'', ''ab initio''). Often, exposition is bypassed and filled in gradually, through dialogue, flashbacks or description of past events. For example, ''Hamlet'' begins after the death of Hamlet's father. Characters make reference to King Hamlet's death without the plot's first establishment of said fact. Since the play is about Hamlet and the revenge more so than the motivation, Shakespeare uses ''in medias res'' to bypass superfluous exposition.
