Ken Anderson (filmmaker)
Ken Anderson (December 23, 1917 – March 12, 2006) was an American Baptist minister, screenwriter, director and producer of Christian films. He is most well remembered for founding Gospel Films and directing ''Pilgrim's Progress'', a 1978 adaptation of ''The Pilgrim's Progress'' by John Bunyan, which marked the first screen appearance for actor Liam Neeson. Anderson wrote 77 fiction and non-fiction books over six decades, including the best-seller ''Where to Find It in the Bible.'' He was the first editor for ''Youth for Christ'' magazine, which came to be known as ''Ignite Your Faith''. Early life Anderson was born in Rembrandt, Iowa. His mother died during childbirth, due to which Anderson was raised by his father and paternal grandmother. In 1938, he married Doris Ilene Jones (1918-2013). ''In His Steps'' is a best-selling religious fiction novel written by Charles Monroe Sheldon. First published in 1896, the book has sold more than 50,000,000 copies, and ranks as one of the best-selling books of all time. The full title of the book is ''In His Steps: What Would Jesus Do?'' Though variations of the subtitle "What would Jesus do" have been used by Christians for centuries as a form of '' imitatio dei'', the imitation of God, it gained much greater currency following publication of the book. Chicago Advance, the original publisher, failed to register the copyright in the proper form. Other publishers took advantage of this, publishing the book without paying the author royalties. Charles Monroe Sheldon (February 26, 1857 – February 24, 1946) was an American Congregationalist minister and a leader of the Social Gospel movement. His novel ''In His Steps'' introduced the principle "What would Jesus do?", which articulated an approach to Christian theology that became popular at the turn of the 20th century and enjoyed a revival almost one hundred years later. The stretch of US-24 on the north side of Topeka, Kansas, between US-75 and K-4 is named the "Charles Sheldon Trafficway" in his honor.
