The Independent Monitor for the Press (IMPRESS) is an independent press regulator in the UK. It was the first to be recognised by the Press Recognition Panel. Unlike the Independent Press Standards Organisation (IPSO), IMPRESS is fully compliant with the recommendations of the Leveson Inquiry. IMPRESS regulates over 200 titles, consisting of a variety of independent local, investigative and special interest news publications across the UK. No national newspaper has signed up to the new regulator; most continue to be members of the unrecognised IPSO. Its founder is Jonathan Heawood and its current Chief Executive is Ed Procter. Press Recognition Panel
The Press Recognition Panel (PRP) was created on 3 November 2014 by the Royal Charter on self-regulation of the press. The PRP was established following the Leveson Inquiry (2011–2012), a judicial public inquiry chaired by Lord Justice Leveson into the culture, practices and ethics of the British press following the News International phone hacking scandal. The PRP's function is to carry out activities relating to the recognition of press regulators. The new system of independent press regulation received all-party support when it was devised. The Presidents Club Charitable Trust was a British charity known for an annual charity dinner held from 1985 to 2018. The dinner, held usually at The Dorchester hotel in London, was for male guests only and was considered a "mainstay of London's social calendar". After the ''Financial Times'' reported on sexual misconduct at the 2018 dinner, the charity announced its intent to disband. The charitable trust's joint chairmen as of 2018 were the property developer Bruce Ritchie and the businessman and Department for Education director David Meller. Evolve Politics is a British left-wing news and current affairs website created in September 2015. The website describes itself as "a truly independent, shared equity media outlet, providing incisive news reporting and investigative journalism that highlights and exposes injustice, inequality and unfairness within UK politics, and throughout society in general." Staff and financing The website's editorial staff consists of Editor-in-Chief Tom D. Rogers and Senior Editor Jessica Miller. It is funded through paid subscriptions, donations and advertising revenue from the website. For the year to the end of August 2017, Evolve made a turnover of £14,830 and a profit of £4,292. Evolve state that their average monthly donation is £2.50, and their largest monthly contribution is £10 a month. The Freedom Party of Manitoba, founded as the Libertarian Party of Manitoba, is a provincial political party in Manitoba, Canada, advocating cannabis legalization. History The party was created in the mid-1980s and formally changed its name in early 2005, and in 2007 became the Freedom Party of Manitoba. The LPM ran four candidates in the provincial election of 1986, one fewer than was required for official party certification. It achieved ballot status in 1988 with six candidates, and ran five in 1990. The LPM ran six candidates in 1995, six again in 1999 and five in 2003. It never came close to electing a member to the legislature, and Buors has acknowledged the LPM is a marginal political force in the province. Like other "fringe parties", the LPM claims to present ideas to the public which are ignored by mainstream organizations.
