The Imperial Order Daughters of the Empire (IODE) is a women's charitable organization based in Canada. It provides scholarships, bursaries, book prizes, and awards, and pursues other philanthropic and educational projects in various communities across Canada. The IODE's motto was "One Flag, One Throne, One Empire" and the IODE's magazine is called ''Echoes''. History In 1899 Margaret Polson Murray was in England and was swept up in the wave of patriotic support for the British Empire that followed the outbreak of the Second Boer War. On her return to Canada she immediately started to organise a woman's support group which would "place themselves in the front rank of colonial patriotism" and give practical charitable aid to soldiers, and if they were killed, support for their dependents, and care for their graves. Victoria League
The Victoria League for Commonwealth Friendship (1901–present) is a voluntary charitable organisation that connects people from Commonwealth countries. In archival science, a fonds is a group of documents that share the same origin and that have occurred naturally as an outgrowth of the daily workings of an agency, individual, or organization. An example of a fonds could be the writings of a poet that were never published or the records of an institution during a specific period. Fonds are a part of a hierarchical level of description system in an archive that begins with fonds at the top, and the subsequent levels become more descriptive and narrower as one goes down the hierarchy. Edith Sarah Louisa Boulton (1847 – November 14, 1912) was a Canadian philanthropist and imperialist. The daughter of James Boulton, a barrister, and Margaret Neilina Fortye, she was born in Toronto. Her grandfather D’Arcy Boulton had been attorney-general for Upper Canada. In 1871, Boulton married Toronto businessman Samuel Nordheimer; the couple had eight daughters and three sons. She contributed to various Toronto institutions including the Infants' Home, the Hillcrest Convalescent Hospital, the Ladies' Work Depository, the Working Boys' Home, the Children's Aid Society and St. James’ Cathedral. Boulton also served on the board of governors for the Victorian Order of Nurses, was president of the local Red Cross Society and helped found the Female Immigrants Receiving Home.
