The Immediate Geographic Region of Caratinga is one of the 3 immediate geographic regions in the Intermediate Geographic Region of Ipatinga, one of the 70 immediate geographic regions in the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais and one of the 509 of Brazil, created by the National Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) in 2017. Raul Soares
Raul Soares is a Brazilian municipality located in the state of Minas Gerais. The city belongs to the mesoregion of Zona da Mata and extends to the microregion of Ponte Nova. As of 2020, the estimated population was 23,711. History The Boachás, who populated the rich mountains near the river that inherited their name, were the first people to settle in the area. The pioneers Domingos de Lana and Cassimiro de Lana arrived in Raul Soares on January 20, 1837, from Mariana. Upon their arrival, they expelled the native population, and took possession of the mountains. In 1841, the territory was sold to Francisco Alves do Vale, who settled there with his family. According to a deed dated October 29, 1873, João Pinto de Oliveira, a wealthy man, donated five acres of land. The village formed out of this land was called São Sebastião do Entre Rios for its location between the Matipó and Santana rivers. Caratinga is a Municipalities of Brazil, municipality in eastern Minas Gerais state, Brazil. The population in 2020 was 92,603 inhabitants and the total area of the municipality was 1,251 km2. The elevation is 578 meters above sea level, with maximum elevation of 1,516 m in the Serra do Rio Preto and 330 m at the mouth of the Córrego Boachá. Location The municipality is located at 19° 37’ 30’’ latitude south and at 42° 09’ 00’’ longitude west. It is part of Region VIII, denominated Rio Doce, and part of the microregion of Mata de Caratinga, in the eastern part of Minas Gerais. It lies on the important Rio-Bahia interstate highway (BR 116) and is connected to the state capital of Belo Horizonte by BR–381 to the city of João Monlevade.
