The Immaculate Conception Cathedral Also Neiva Cathedral Is the name given to a religious building affiliated with the Roman Catholic Church dedicated to the Virgin Mary in her invocation of the Immaculate Conception. It is located in the city of Neiva in the department of Huila in the southwestern part of the South American country of Colombia. The temple that follows the Roman or Latin rite is the mother church of the Diocese of Neiva (Dioecesis Neivensis) that was established in 1972 by Pope Paul VI. It was built in a Gothic style that for a long time dominated the constructions of the city. The church is located on the south side of Santander Park, in the heart of Neiva. Neiva
Neiva () is the capital of the Department of Huila. It is located in the valley of the Magdalena River in south central Colombia with a population of about 357,392 inhabitants. It is one of the most important cities in southern Colombia, mainly because of its strategic geographical location. History Neiva was first founded in 1539 by Juan de Cabrera in an area now belonging to the municipality of Campoalegre. In 1550, Juan de Alonso y Arias relocated the city to the place that is now the municipality of Villavieja. At this location, the city was destroyed by indigenous tribes in 1560. The city was founded, at its current location, for the third and final time in 1612 by Diego de Ospina y Medinilla. Neiva became important during the colonial times because of its strategic location. Huila () is one of the departments of Colombia. It is located in the southwest of the country, and its capital is Neiva. Santander Park ( es, Parque Santander) is located in Cúcuta, Colombia. The park is bordered by 5th and 6th Avenue and 10th and 11th Street and was previously the location of the Grand Square of San José de Guasimales, a site hosting principal events and public spectacles in Cúcuta.
