''Images'' is an album by the Italian singer and songwriter Lucio Battisti. It was released in September 1977 by RCA Victor. The album is a collection of five songs from his previous album, ''Io tu noi tutti'', and two of his classic songs (" Il mio canto libero" and " La canzone del sole"). All of the songs were translated into English by Peter Powell. Critical reception Stateside critics considered the record a relative failure: Richard Williams, in''Melody Maker ''Melody Maker'' was a British weekly music magazine, one of the world's earliest music weeklies; according to its publisher, IPC Media, the earliest. Lucio Battisti
Lucio Battisti (5 March 1943 – 9 September 1998) was an influential Italian singer-songwriter and composer. He is widely recognized for songs that defined the late 1960s and 1970s era of Italian songwriting. Battisti released 18 studio albums from 1969 to 1994, with a significant portion of this catalogue translated into Spanish (various albums), English (one album), French (two albums), and German (one album). He was known to be an extremely reserved artist, performing only a small number of live concerts during his career. In 1978 he announced that he would speak to the public only through his musical work, limiting himself to the recording of studio albums and disappearing from the public scene. Il Mio Canto Libero (song)
"Il mio canto libero" (''My Free Song'') is a song written by Italian singer-songwriter Lucio Battisti and lyricist Mogol. The song was recorded by Battisti for the album of the same title, and released as a single in November 1972 for Mogol's recording label Numero Uno. The song was a commercial success in Italy, topping the ''Musica e dischi'' singles chart in 1973 and becoming the third best-selling single of the year. During the following years, it was covered by several artists, and it became a classic of Italian popular music. It was certified platinum by the Federation of the Italian Music Industry in 2021, for domestic equivalent sales exceeding 70,000 units since 2009. Giulio Rapetti (born 17 August 1936), in art Mogol (), is an Italian music lyricist. He is best known for his collaborations with Lucio Battisti, Gianni Bella, Adriano Celentano and Mango (singer), Mango. Career Mogol was born in Milan. His father, Mariano Rapetti, was an important director of the Casa Ricordi, Ricordi record label, and had been in his own time a successful lyricist of the 1950s. Young Giulio, who was likewise employed by Ricordi as a public relations expert, began his own career as a lyricist against his father's wishes. His first successes were "Il cielo in una stanza", set to music by Gino Paoli and sung by Mina (Italian singer), Mina; "Al di là", a piece that won the 1961 Sanremo Festival, performed by Luciano Tajoli and Betty Curtis; "Una lacrima sul viso", which was a huge hit for Bobby Solo in 1964. ''Melody Maker'' was a British weekly music magazine, one of the world's earliest music weeklies; according to its publisher, IPC Media, the earliest. It was founded in 1926, largely as a magazine for dance band musicians, by Leicester-born composer, publisher Lawrence Wright; the first editor was Edgar Jackson. Richard Williams (born 1947 in Sheffield) is a British music and sports journalist. As a writer, then deputy editor, of the weekly music newspaper ''Melody Maker'', he became an influential commentator on the rise of new forms of rock music at the end of the 1960s. Williams and ''MM'', as it was known, helped promote and contextualise the progressive in pop music. In particular, Williams wrote several key articles around 1970 that increased UK attention to the (then disintegrating) Velvet Underground. ''Melody Maker'' still covered jazz and Williams wrote about the more progressive developments in this field also. Al Vandenberg (1932–2012) was an American photographer notable for his street portraiture and collaboration on the album cover of Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band by The Beatles. Early life Vandenberg was born to Dutch parents in Boston, USA in 1932.
