Illinois Route 184 is a state road in the southern portion of the U.S. state of Illinois located entirely within Franklin County, Illinois, Franklin County. It runs from Illinois Route 149 in Royalton, Illinois, Royalton north to Illinois Route 14 in Mulkeytown, Illinois, Mulkeytown. Route 184 is maintained by the Illinois Department of Transportation. Route description Route 184 begins at an intersection with Route 149 (Illinois), Route 149 in Six Mile Township, Franklin County, Illinois, Six Mile Township north of Royalton, Illinois, Royalton. The route continues north through farmland, passing occasional buildings. It meets County Route 14 before intersecting County Route 30 at the border of Tyrone Township, Franklin County, Illinois, Tyrone Township. Royalton, Illinois
Royalton is a village in Franklin County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,151 at the 2010 census. History According to the original surveys of Illinois, in the early 19th century the Lusk's Ferry Road ran through the middle of what is now Royalton, heading on a diagonal line toward the southeast. The Lusk's Ferry Road was an important early road connecting Fort Kaskaskia with Lusk's Ferry on the Ohio River. No trace of this road remains near Royalton. It is not clear whether the road figured in the early history of the town, or if it was long forgotten before Royalton came into existence. Royalton was established in 1907. On October 22, 1914, an explosion in the North Mine of the Franklin Coal & Coke Company killed 51 miners. This was the worst mine disaster to date in the coal fields of southern Illinois. Mulkeytown is an unincorporated and census-designated place in Franklin County, Illinois, United States. As of the 2010 census it had a population of 175. Geography Mulkeytown is located south of Chicago (via I-57 south to IL 14 west), and southeast of St. Louis (via I-64 east to US 51 south to IL 14 east). Illinois Route 14 (IL 14) is a major east–west highway in southern Illinois. It runs from U.S. Route 51 south of Du Quoin to the New Harmony Toll Bridge over the Wabash River to State Road 66 at the Indiana state line. This is a distance of .
