Illinois Route 141 is an east–west state road in southeastern Illinois. It runs from U.S. Route 45 west of Omaha to the Wabash Memorial Bridge over the Wabash River into Indiana. The bridge is also the western terminus of State Road 62. This is a distance of . Route description Illinois 141 serves as a connector between southeastern Illinois and the greater Evansville, Indiana area. It is also the most southerly bridge that is a state highway over the Wabash River; the next crossing into another state is along Illinois Route 13, but that goes over the Ohio River into Kentucky. In addition, Illinois 141 is the most southerly crossing into Indiana. Illinois 141 runs east from U.S. 45 to Omaha at Illinois 1; the only other area it serves is New Haven. Norris City is a village in White County, Illinois. The population was 1,275 at the 2010 census. History Norris City was incorporated in 1901. The original plat of Norris City was filed for record in the White County Courthouse in Carmi, Illinois on August 17, 1871 at 8 a.m. The post office at Norris City was established May 15, 1871, with William A. Johnson appointed as the first Postmaster. The name for Norris City had to have been decided prior to the time it was platted and prior to the opening of the post office. The question of how Norris City got its name has caused many debates throughout the years. The new community, for a short time in early 1871, was called “Popeye” or “Popeye’s Station, after William A. Johnson, the first depot agent at the site who had the nickname of Popeye. Omaha is a village in Gallatin County, Illinois, United States. The population was 266 at the 2010 census. History Omaha was established in 1871 as a stop along the Springfield and Illinois South Eastern Railway. A baggage master working for the railroad, Henry Pearce, named the settlement for Omaha, Nebraska, where he had previously worked as a baggage master. White County is a county located in the U.S. state of Illinois. According to the 2020 census, it had a population of 13,877. Its county seat is Carmi. It is located in the southern portion of Illinois known locally as " Little Egypt". History White County was organized from Gallatin County in 1815, and was named after Captain Isaac White, a Gallatin County legislator who is credited with the idea of extending the Illinois-Wisconsin border a few miles north of the southern tip of Lake Michigan and was also in charge of the salt works at Equality. The Wabash Memorial Bridge (''Wabash Memorial Toll Bridge'' in INDOT documents) carries vehicular traffic across the Wabash River between Indiana State Road 62 and Illinois Route 141. The , two-lane bridge is located in both Posey County, Indiana, and White County, Illinois. The bridge is operated by the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT). The bridge was built in 1956 and has an estimated life of 75 years. It is the southernmost span connecting Illinois and Indiana, with the next bridge to the north located 20 miles north in New Harmony, Indiana, but the next drivable bridge is on Interstate 64, located about 35 miles to the north, near Griffin. State Road 62 (SR 62) in the U.S. state of Indiana is an east–west route that travels from the Illinois state line in the southwest corner of Indiana to the Louisville, Kentucky area, then northeast toward the Cincinnati, Ohio area.
