Il Volo (album)
Il Volo is the self-titled debut album from the pop-opera trio Il Volo, formed on the Italian singing competition ''Ti lascio una canzone''. The album, produced by Humberto Gatica and Italian singer-producer Tony Renis, was released in Italy on November 30, 2010 and in the United States on May 17, 2011. It reached the top spot in the Austrian Albums Chart and it was certified Platinum in Italy by the Federation of the Italian Music Industry. The Spanish edition of the album received a nomination for Best Pop Album by a Duo or Group with Vocals at the 12th Latin Grammy Awards in 2011. Reception Chart performance The album debuted at number 33 on the Italian Albums Chart during the week ending on December 5, 2010 and it peaked at number 6 in January 2011. Il Volo
Il Volo (; Italian for "The Flight") is an Italian operatic pop trio, consisting of baritone Gianluca Ginoble, and tenors Piero Barone and Ignazio Boschetto. They describe their music as "popera". Having won the Sanremo Music Festival 2015, they represented Italy in the Eurovision Song Contest 2015 in Vienna, Austria. They reached third place, but achieved first-place in the televoting. Smile (Charlie Chaplin Song)
"Smile" is a song based on the theme song used in the soundtrack for Charlie Chaplin's 1936 film ''Modern Times''. Background Chaplin, who composed the song, was inspired by Puccini's ''Tosca''. John Turner and Geoffrey Parsons added the lyrics and title in 1954. In the lyrics, based on lines and themes from the film, the singer is telling the listener to cheer up and that there is always a bright tomorrow, just as long as they smile. "Smile" has become a popular standard since its original use in Chaplin's film and has been recorded by numerous artists. Emanuele Alfredo Mazzucchi (1878-1972) was an Italian composer and musician, known for being the co-author of some famous pieces of the Canzone Napoletana (Neapolitan songs) such as "'O sole mio" "Maria Marì" and " I' te vurria vasà". Eduardo Di Capua (May 12, 1865 – October 3, 1917) was a Naples, Neapolitan composer, singer and songwriter. Biography He was born in Naples in 1865. He is best known for the song "'O sole mio, 'O Sole mio". In 1897, di Capua bought a collection of 23 melodies from an obscure composer, Alfredo Mazzucchi. Di Capua developed the piece, and then invited the poet Giovanni Capurro to write lyrics for it. The resulting song has been recorded by many singers, both classical and popular, in both the original Neapolitan and the English adaptation. He also wrote "Marie, Ah Marie" ("O Marie" in English), another Neapolitan song. Giovanni Capurro
Giovanni Capurro (February 5, 1859 – January 18, 1920) was an Italian poet, best remembered today as the co-creator, with singer/composer Eduardo Di Capua, of the world famous song, "'O Sole mio". Capurro was born in Naples. He made his living as a poet and playwright. He is considered to be among the finest nineteenth-century Italian poets. The actor Viviani gave his first performance in an established theatre, the Teatro Perella in Basso Porto, in ''The Street Urchin'', a sketch by Capurro. In 1898, Giovanni Capurro wrote the words to'' 'O Sole mio'' and asked Eduardo Di Capua (who at the time was in Odessa with his orchestra-violinist father) to set it to music. Maurizio Fabrizio (born 16 March 1952) is an Italian composer, conductor, arranger, producer, musician and singer-songwriter. Life and career Born in Milan, after studying at the conservatory in 1969 Fabrizio became a member of the La Scala orchestra as a percussionist under the direction of Claudio Abbado. Giulio Rapetti (born 17 August 1936), in art Mogol (), is an Italian music lyricist. He is best known for his collaborations with Lucio Battisti, Gianni Bella, Adriano Celentano and Mango (singer), Mango. Career Mogol was born in Milan. His father, Mariano Rapetti, was an important director of the Casa Ricordi, Ricordi record label, and had been in his own time a successful lyricist of the 1950s. Young Giulio, who was likewise employed by Ricordi as a public relations expert, began his own career as a lyricist against his father's wishes. Jimmy Fontana (13 November 1934 – 11 September 2013) was an Italian actor, composer and singer-songwriter. Two of his most famous songs are " Che sarà", performed also by José Feliciano with Ricchi e Poveri, and " Il Mondo". Biography Born Enrico Sbriccoli in Camerino, Italy, after graduating from high school, he moved to Rome to study Economics. In his spare time, Fontana taught himself bass and attend local jazz venues.
