Ikurangi
Ikurangi is one of the four major peaks of Rarotonga in the Cook Islands. It has an elevation of 485 metres above sea level and overlooks the capital Avarua and the village of Matavera. The peak is climbable by a hiking trail. Its name is derived from a mountain in Tahiti and in turn is remembered by Mount Hikurangi in New Zealand. Mount Hikurangi (Gisborne District)
Mount Hikurangi (or ''Te Ara ki Hikurangi'' in Māori) is a peak in the eastern corner of New Zealand's North Island, about north of Gisborne, and southwest of the East Cape Lighthouse. On a spur of the Raukumara Range in the Waiapu Valley, it is the North Island's highest non-volcanic peak. Mount Hikurangi is within the rohe of Ngāti Porou and Ngati and is the iwi's most significant icon. In Māori mythology, it was the first part of the North Island to emerge when Māui pulled it as a giant fish from the ocean. According to these beliefs, his waka, '' Nukutaimemeha'', became stranded on the mountain, and lies petrified between the mountain's peaks in Lake Hinetakawhiti. Rarotonga is the largest and most populous of the Cook Islands. The island is volcanic, with an area of , and is home to almost 75% of the country's population, with 13,007 of a total population of 17,434. Avarua (meaning "Two Harbours" in Cook Islands Māori) is a town and district in the north of the island of Rarotonga, and is the national capital of the Cook Islands. The town is served by Rarotonga International Airport (IATA Airport Code: RAR) and Avatiu Harbour. The population of Avarua District is 4,906 (census of 2016).
