The (local nickname ''TDR'') is a theme park and vacation resort located in Urayasu, Chiba, Japan, just east of Tokyo. The resort is fully owned and operated by The Oriental Land Company under a licence from The Walt Disney Company, who constructed and designed the resort and its various attractions. The resort opened on April 15, 1983, as a single theme park (Tokyo Disneyland), later developing into a resort with a second theme park (Tokyo DisneySea), five Disney hotels, six non-Disney hotels and a shopping complex (Ikspiari). Tokyo Disneyland was the first Disney theme park to open outside the United States and the resort is the only Disney Parks resort in the world not owned or operated by The Walt Disney Company in any capacity. The Oriental Land Company
is a Japanese leisure and tourism corporation headquartered in Urayasu, Chiba, Japan where it also owns and operates the Tokyo Disney Resort. The company operates in three segments, divided as theme parks, hotels, and other business. Oriental Land pays licenses and royalties to The Walt Disney Company for use of their intellectual properties, while Disney provides consultation and their Imagineering division to design and build Oriental Land's theme parks and attractions at the resort. Resort Gateway Station
The , officially called , is an automated monorail in Japan, which operates between Maihama Station and the Tokyo Disney Resort. The system is operated by , the subsidiary of Oriental Land Co., Ltd. that operates the resort. Legally speaking, the line is built as a "railway", just like ordinary rapid transits or commuter rail lines. As such, season tickets are available, and Pasmo and Suica IC cards can also be used on this line. In reality, the line mostly functions as the gateway attraction of the Disney Resort, and all of the stations are located on the private property of Oriental Land. Maihama Station
is a railway station in Urayasu, Chiba, Japan, operated by East Japan Railway Company (JR East). It is most well known for being the main railway access point for the Tokyo Disney Resort. Lines The station is served by the Keiyō Line from , and also by Musashino Line services to and from . Station layout The station has a ''Midori no Madoguchi'' staffed ticket office. The station consists of a single elevated platform serving two tracks. Platforms Disney Resort Line Resort Gateway Station of the Disney Resort Line is a short walk away outside the station. History The station opened on 1 December 1988. The platforms were extended by a total of about 90 meters in January 2021 with work starting in April 2020.
