Ihling Brothers Everard Company
Ihling Brothers Everard Company, based in Kalamazoo, Michigan, is one of the oldest Masonic and Fraternal Regalia manufacturers in the United States. History In April 1869, Otto Ihling, a 22-year-old journeyman bookbinder, moved from Milwaukee to Kalamazoo to open his new shop. While attending night school, he created handmade blank books for businesses, banks and counties. The first issue of "The Michigan Freemason" was bound by Otto Ihling and edited by Mr. W. J. Chaplin, a partner in the business. In 1871, Otto persuaded his brother Reinhold to join the partnership, and the three men were the publishers and proprietors of "The Michigan Freemason." In 1872, these blank books, records and ledgers became the original accounting system developed specifically for lodges. All had the approval of the Grand Master. In 1879 Herbert H. Kalamazoo ( ) is a city in the southwest region of the U.S. state of Michigan. It is the county seat of Kalamazoo County. At the 2010 census, Kalamazoo had a population of 74,262. Kalamazoo is the major city of the Kalamazoo-Portage Metropolitan Statistical Area, which had a population of 335,340 in 2015. A Grand Master is a title of honour as well as an office in Freemasonry, given to a freemason elected to oversee a Masonic jurisdiction, derived from the office of Grand Masters in chivalric orders. He presides over a Grand Lodge and has certain rights in the constituent Lodges that form his jurisdiction. In most, but not all cases, the Grand Master is styled "Most Worshipful Grand Master." In duplicate bridge, a board is an item of equipment that holds one deal, or one deck of 52 cards distributed in four hands of 13 cards each. The design permits the entire deal of four hands to be passed, carried or stacked securely with the cards hidden from view in four pockets. This is required for duplicate bridge tournaments, where the same deal is played several times and so the composition of each hand must be preserved during and after each play of each deal.
