The Cathedral of the Nativity of Our Lady also Sé Catedral da Natividade de Nossa Senhora and Igreja da Sé () is a Roman Catholic cathedral in Sé, Macau. It is the current cathedral of the Diocese of Macau. The cathedral is also called the "Church of the Nativity of Our Lady". The cathedral is included in the list of historical monuments of the Historic Centre of Macau, which in turn is included in the list of World Heritage Sites in China. History ;1623 In the early seventeenth century it was a small wooden chapel, and was elevated to cathedral only in 1623. Sé, Macau
Sé is a southeast Freguesia (Macau), civil parish ( pt, freguesia) in the Macau Peninsula of Macau. It is the second largest peninsular district in Macau after the civil parish of Freguesia de Nossa Senhora de Fátima (Macau), Nossa Senhora de Fátima. The parish area is named for the Igreja da Sé (Macau), Igreja da Sé. This parish was one of five in the former Municipality of Macau, one of Macau's two municipalities that were abolished on 31 December 2001 by Law No. 17/2001, following the 1999 transfer of sovereignty over Macau from Portugal to China. Stephen Lee Bun-sang (born 10 November 1956, in Hong Kong; in ) is a Roman Catholic priest, numerary member of Opus Dei, former auxiliary bishop of Hong Kong, and the current bishop of Macau. Religion in Macau is represented predominantly by Buddhism and Chinese folk religions. During the period in which the city was under Portuguese rule (1557–1999) the Catholic Church became one of the dominant faiths, but nowadays it has greatly declined. Macau Peninsula
The Macau Peninsula is the most populous and historical part of Macau. It has an area of () and is geographically connected to Guangdong Province at the northeast through an isthmus wide. The peninsula, together with downtown Zhuhai, sits on an island separated from the continent by distributaries of the Pearl River. The Border Gate (; pt, Portas do Cerco) was built on the northern isthmus.
