''If My Heart Had Wings'' is an album by the American musician Melissa Manchester, released in 1995. It was a commercial disappointment. Manchester promoted the album by performing its first single, "In a Perfect World", on the soap opera ''General Hospital''. Production The album was executive produced by Arif Mardin and Michael Lippman. Due to Manchester's work on the musical ''I Sent a Letter to My Love'', the album was produced over a period of two years. "If My Heart Had Wings" was written with Amy Sky. Melissa Manchester (born February 15, 1951) is an American singer, songwriter and actress. Since the 1970s, her songs have been carried by adult contemporary radio stations. She has also appeared on television, in films, and on stage. Early life and career Manchester was born in the Bronx, a borough of New York City, into a musical family. Her father, David Manchester, was a bassoonist for the Metropolitan Opera, New York Metropolitan Opera for three decades. Edgar Leslie (December 31, 1885 – January 22, 1976) was an American songwriter. Biography Edgar Leslie was born in Stamford, Connecticut, in 1885. He studied at the Cooper Union in New York. He published his first song in 1909, starting a long prolific career as a composer and lyricist. He died in 1976. Musical career Leslie's first song, "Lonesome" (1909), was an immediate success, recorded by the Haydn Quartet and again by Byron G. Harlan. Other notable artists recorded his early works. His collaborations with his childhood friend John Mellencamp include the Top 10 ''Billboard'' hits "Crumblin' Down" and "Hurts So Good", as well as "Key West Intermezzo (I Saw You First)", a #1 hit in Canada.
