If (Glasvegas Song)
"If" is a 2013 single by Scottish Indie rock band Glasvegas. It was released on 8 July 2013. It is the second single from their third studio album '' Later...When The TV Turns To Static''. It was written and produced by lead singer James Allan. Critical reception On release, the single was met with good reviews. Nick Levine of '' NME'' says that "'If' is grand, ragged round the edges, and wiser than you’ll ever be." He goes on to say "Welcome back to ‘brilliant’." Mickey McMonagle of the Daily Record says "this song has grown into a phenomenal piece of music." He then goes on to say "it’s destined to be a huge favourite live and MUST be a single." He concluded "Unmistakably Glasvegas at their very best." Music video A music video to accompany the release of "If" was first released onto YouTube on 8 July 2013. Glasvegas
Glasvegas are a Scottish indie rock band from Glasgow. The band consists of James Allan (vocals), Rab Allan (lead guitar) and Paul Donoghue (bass guitar), with Swedish drummer Jonna Löfgren joining the group in 2010 until her departure in 2020. Their platinum-selling debut album ''Glasvegas'' released in September 2008 was well received by critics and reached No. 2 in the UK Albums Chart. It was nominated for the Mercury Music Prize in September 2009. The album went on to enjoy further critical and commercial success in North America and in Sweden (where it went Gold). On 1 December 2008, less than three months after the release of their debut album the band released the mini-album, '' A Snowflake Fell (And It Felt Like a Kiss)'', a 6 track Christmas E.P, which was recorded in Transylvania. Indie rock is a Music subgenre, subgenre of rock music that originated in the United States, United Kingdom and New Zealand from the 1970s to the 1980s. Originally used to describe independent record labels, the term became associated with the music they produced and was initially used interchangeably with alternative rock or "Pop rock, guitar pop rock". One of the primary scenes of the movement was Dunedin, where Dunedin sound, a cultural scene based around a convergence of noise pop and jangle became popular among the city's University of Otago, large student population. Independent labels such as Flying Nun Records, Flying Nun began to promote the scene across New Zealand, inspiring key college rock bands in the United States such as Pavement (band), Pavement, Pixies (band), Pixies and R.E.M. ''The Old Grey Whistle Test'' (sometimes abbreviated to ''Whistle Test'' or ''OGWT'') is a British television music show. The show was devised by BBC producer Rowan Ayers, commissioned by David Attenborough and aired on BBC2 from 1971 to 1988. It took over the BBC2 late-night slot from '' Disco 2'', which ran between September 1970 and July 1971, while continuing to feature non-chart music. The original producer, involved in an executive capacity throughout the show's entire history, was Michael Appleton. PJ Harvey
Polly Jean Harvey (born 9 October 1969) is an English singer, songwriter, and musician. Primarily known as a vocalist and guitarist, she is also proficient with a wide range of instruments. Harvey began her career in 1988 when she joined local band Automatic Dlamini as a vocalist, guitarist and saxophonist. The band's frontman, John Parish, became her long-term collaborator.
