Idjit Savant
''Idjit Savant'' is the fifth studio album by punk rock band The Dickies. It was released in 1995 on Triple X Records. It was jokingly referred to by singer Leonard Graves Phillips as their "best album no one's ever heard". Although bass player Charlie Alexander played on most of the album's tracks, his sudden departure just weeks before a tour upset Phillips, and replacement Marc Vachon was credited in the liner notes instead. The track "Just Say Yes" had already been released as a single in 1990. The Dickies
The Dickies are an American punk rock band formed in the San Fernando Valley, Los Angeles, in 1977. One of the longest tenured punk rock bands, they have been in continuous existence for over 40 years. They have consistently balanced catchy melodies, harmony vocals, and pop music, pop song structures, with a speedy punk guitar attack. Alexander Young (28 December 1938 – 4 August 1997), better known as George Alexander, was a Scottish singer, songwriter, saxophonist, bassist, guitarist and session musician. He was an elder brother of George Young, the rhythm guitarist and founding member of the Easybeats, as well as Malcolm and Angus Young, founding members of the Australian hard rock band AC/DC, and the younger brother of Stephen Young, the father of Stevie Young, who is also a member of AC/DC. Cliff Martinez (born February 5, 1954) is an American musician and composer. Early in his career, Martinez was known as a drummer notably with the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Captain Beefheart. Jack Yellen
Jack Selig Yellen (Jacek Jeleń; July 6, 1892 – April 17, 1991) was an American lyricist and screenwriter. He is best remembered for writing the lyrics to the songs "Happy Days Are Here Again", which was used by Franklin Roosevelt as the theme song for his successful 1932 presidential campaign, and "Ain't She Sweet", a Tin Pan Alley standard. Early life and education Born to a Jewish family in Poland, Yellen emigrated with his family to the United States when he was five years old. The oldest of seven children, he was raised in Buffalo, New York and began writing songs in high school. Song Of The Dawn
"Song of the Dawn" was a 1930 song, first introduced in the musical film ''King of Jazz''. The song was originally written for Bing Crosby, who lost the part to John Boles, another actor in the film, due to Crosby being jailed for a motoring offence. Crosby recorded the song commercially on March 21, 1930 with Paul Whiteman and his Orchestra. John Boles also recorded the song for commercial issue. Al Bowlly recorded the song on August 2, 1930 with Hubert Wallace and the Aldwych Players directed by Jay Wilbur. Jonathan Melvoin
Jonathan David Melvoin (December 6, 1961 – July 12, 1996) was an American musician, active in the 1980s and 1990s. Early life He was the son of Constance (née Ives) and Mike Melvoin, keyboardist for The Wrecking Crew, and brother of twins Susannah and Wendy Melvoin of Prince and The Revolution. He first learned to play drums at the age of five. Career Melvoin performed with many punk bands in the 1990s, such as The Dickies. He was also a member of The Family, a Prince side project band which produced the original recording of "Nothing Compares 2 U", "Screams of Passion" and "Mutiny", and made musical contributions to many Wendy & Lisa projects, as well as to Prince and the Revolution's 1985 album ''Around the World in a Day''. Michael Brown (born Michael David Lookofsky, April 25, 1949 – March 19, 2015) was an American keyboardist and songwriter, most notable for his work with the Left Banke. He was born in Brooklyn, New York, the son of violinist and arranger Harry Lookofsky. The Left Banke Brown was the principal songwriter for the 1960s baroque-pop group the Left Banke, writing their two biggest hits, "Walk Away Renee" and "Pretty Ballerina". He also was a harpsichordist and clavinet player for the band. "Walk Away Renee" was also a top 20 hit for the Four Tops, having reached No. 15 on the soul singles chart, and No. 14 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100. Internal band tensions saw Brown leave the Left Banke in late 1967, prior to the completion of their second record. Chuck Wagon (musician)
Robert Davis (August 11, 1956 – June 6, 1981), stage name Chuck Wagon, was an American musician and member of the Los Angeles punk rock band the Dickies, with whom he released two albums in his lifetime, as well as a solo 7" single called "Rock n' Roll Won't Go Away". Having joined the Dickies shortly after their formation in 1977, Wagon was the band's multi-instrumentalist, playing keyboards, rhythm guitar, saxophone and harmonica as well as performing backing vocals. Dissatisfied with the band by early 1981, Wagon quit, but was persuaded to return for a handful of live shows. His final studio work with the band, released posthumously in 1983 on ''Stukas Over Disneyland'', would feature Wagon on drums. Georg Albert Ruthenberg (born August 5, 1959), better known by his stage name Pat Smear, is an American musician. He is best known for being the lead guitarist and co-founder of Los Angeles-based punk band The Germs and for being a rhythm guitarist for the rock band Nirvana, which he joined as a touring guitarist in 1993, and Foo Fighters, with whom he has recorded six studio albums. Jan Paul Beahm (better known by his stage name Darby Crash, formerly Bobby Pyn; September 26, 1958 – December 7, 1980) was an American punk rock vocalist who, along with longtime friend Pat Smear (born Georg Ruthenberg), co-founded the punk rock band the Germs. He died by suicide by overdosing on heroin. In the years since his suicide at the age of 22, The Germs have attained legendary status among punk rock fans and musicians alike, as well as from the wider alternative rock and underground music community in general.
